I didn't see much of it, but I saw enough (i.e. about 90 seconds) to know that the satellite feed was a major problem. I must have a look at the link to it!

During the Six Nations, I'm reliably informed that during the most crucial moment of France v Scotland, somebody cut up the Aertel generator used for Nightscreen!

Yeah, we got what looked like a testcard for a split second in the last seconds of the match. Didn't help the nerves....

Good evening! The glamorous rte.ie/live has streamed Nuacht RTE and news2day simultaneously this evening. Guess which one wasn't responding - Nuacht of course! RTE is just lazy, lazy, lazy! They've given up archiving Nuacht and now they've even given up the streaming!

N/C x 3

Slan go foill.

Please drop a line in the TG4 website topic...

I'd say not, although it may have been from the generic BBC coverage. In any case, I'm sorry I missed the match Sad

Anyhoo, from the RTÉ website, Sunrise on the Spring Equinox at the Gossan Stones. Post #100!

WOW, just how did you find that? Straight from DVD too? Weird!

There was a link to the edited version (i.e. without the DVD graphics) posted on the RTÉ website. It was included on March 21st for the website's spring equinox coverage.

RTE broke into Shortland Street today to go the news conference with Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams.

Thats the first time I've seen them break into a programme in a while .

Today's RTÉ News Special:
6:40 Programme starts
7:30 Statement from Ian Paisley
9:10 Tommie Gorman live at Stormont
12:58 Statement from Gerry Adams
16:40 Dermot Ahern by phone
19:23 Ends

The programme started at around 12:15 today. You get the sense that the CA really enjoyed being the one to throw it over to the newsroom, and why not? Note though, that there's a lengthy "problem with the audio" at 8:40 . Also, between 18:50 and 19:07 there's a significant drop in the quality.

Whatever the problems though, at least RTÉ are covering it. On Sky News Active, the top story is Anna Nicole Smith, with no fewer than two screens devoted to it. Absolutely shameful. Really shows their true colours.

Another recent example of a News Special occured on September 7th, when Mary Harney announced her resignation as PD leader. Incidentally, this was the first newsflash with the new graphics package. Bryan Dobson interrupts programming - scroll to 4:55 (ends 25:56).

PS Some time ago I've watched the new Nuacht weatherline (an idea of the new eagarthoir I think) and I've noticed (despite that I have very basic knowledge of Irish), that Nuala Carey speaks it (in my opinion) - strangely? It does not sound like Siun, Seamus, Brid Og or Sharon's Irish. Does she speak a specific dialect or just she do not know how to pronounce it properly?

She probably only learned Irish at school or whatever. I doubt mine sounds anything like any of the Nuacht presenters - probably because I learned it in school, I live in Dublin and I hardly ever speak it. And Nuala's forecasts in English are painful too.... Smile

It was the same during the Michael Jackson trial reconstructions. But then again this is the channel that used massive BREAKING NEWS banners when Britney Spears shaved her head - I dread to think what Sky News will call it when there's a nuclear bomb blast if " News ALERT " means that a pop star's lost it!

This evening's Six-One: Delayed start to the report at 15:45 . Note also that the commerical breaks have been replaced with the holding screen from RTÉ.ie.

A bit of gentle relief on Six-One this evening, note David McCullagh's reaction live outside Government Buildings to this:
Scroll to 11:35 (run to 12:00)

Not the first time that the Viking Tour Boat has popped up in news bulletins - take a look at this clip from last September: Scroll to 7:35

A few additions to rte.ie/news lately - the News on Two is now available for viewing and Carole Coleman now has a log which includes her reports this week from South America.
