10 March: Six-One
This happens from time to time - the sting froze on the return for the break and took several seconds to start at 14:14 . Leave it run on until 14:51, and watch the sports headline package that wouldn't start.

From Sat, St. Patricks day, all RTE news and current affair output will be streamed live from RTE.ie! I remember the news used to be streamed live at one stage, almost a year ago. Nice to see it back.

It has to be said that rte.ie has come on leaps and bounds, and the revamp in January firmly established it as one of the best websites in the country. The availabilty of old programmes was unique and useful but what surprises me most of all about the new phase of live webcasting is the sheer volume of programmes available. I would have expected the main bulletins, but even tonight's SOCR bulletin is being webcasted! (in the process becoming the first of the regular live news programmes).

It's a massive venture, they'll have to be careful though - all the bits of programmes that end up on the RTSP files could cause a few rights problems if they get webcasted regularly. Nice to see RTÉ embracing technology like this and I've every confidence that it will be done well. RTÉ.ie has a good rep. Looking forward to trying it out!

As regards the rights issue they are putting up a caption on the webfeed during the ad breaks of the parade

Incidently during the first 15 minutes of the parade they lost the picture for a second or two 3 times

I also noticed last night that the first programme, RTÉ News Extra, was scheduled for 23:40, but the feed only became available at 23:45 due to the fact that The Late Late ran over. I wonder though, does that mean that the ads will no longer be included on programmes stored on the website?

As for the picture being lost, that wasn't a fault with the web. It was like that on TV too. You would have also have seen a test card with IRL 117 on it. The entire programme is stored, and is available at: http://dynamic.rte.ie/av/2229640.smil (ads can be seen at 41:00)
