Anyone know if Nuacht TG4 and RTE2 are being revamped this year? It's been 3 years...

I think Nuacht TG4 must be revamped shortly before the time that TG4 will become a fully independent broadcaster.

It won't be fully independent though - it will just be independent of RTÉ, apart from Nuach, Ros na Run etc. So if their Nuacht is revamped I guess we can expect RTE branding, maybe "Nuacht RTE ar TG4" or something like that...

Ah, so there is a snag. I can't understand why that hasn't been sorted, especially since they keep referring to the site on-air.

Also, after the website revamp, much was made of the new RTÉ News website and the fact you could watch bulletins again. But there's a whole lot more to it than that, would it not have been better to say something like "we're back at nine, you can keep up to date with the latest news on the new RTÉ News website at www.rte.ie/news," before signing off?

The SOCR bulletins have been commented on, but Friday's late-night bulletin took the biscuit! The whole thing was read from hard copy, and there were no VTs or server playouts. They could have simulcasted a Radio 1 bulletin, it would have served the exact same purpose!

I always think that if they'r going to go to the efoort of a CSO on the SOCR bulletins, why don't they get a camera view of the newsroom? or outside Montrose? or Dublin? The backdrop is dull enough on the main bulletins without a watercolour version on the hour every hour...

February has been quite the month for little feck-ups, like this one from last night's Prime Time:
Audio Channel Distorted: Scroll to 28:58 (run to 29:06)

But it's been six whole weeks since we've seen a running order blunder. The look on John Finnerty's face at one o'clock today told the story, I was on the phone at the time so the TV was on mute.
Running order: Scroll to 5:38 (run to 6:00)

Weather this time, and to quote Len Brennan, "this is a new one."
1 March: Scroll to 33:49

This one, however, has happened before.
2 March: Scroll to 20:16.

I just thought of a Good Idea for an Irish Newschannel. How about a partnership between RTE, and either BBC Newsline, UTV, Or ITN. I would imagine that RTE Nuacht would produce 5 minute nuacht bullitens at the end of every hour. TG4 would then play it overnight as would RTEi, and it could then have Irish subtitles or something. I would Imagine it would have a set like RTE Sport's set, but with a videowallon the sides, and a dublin or newsroom view in the centre.

I think the BOTH would work better for Nuacht, if it was at five to the top story would appear twice within ten minutes, albeit in different languages. But an hourly nuacht bulletin would be a welcome inclusion in a news channel, whether RTÉ have the commitment or not to do that has been questioned in the past.

As for the video wall, again, it would be welcome so long as it's not over used or shown off as a gimmick like the laptops. But they can be used on occasion to good effect, and hopefully they would on an RTÉ News Channel.

As far as I know, there has yet to have been a live programme with Irish subtitles. Even when the Late Late has a cúpla focail thrown in from a contributor, the subtitles get stopped in their tracks and if one's lucky, a bad translation attempt is made. Heck, even on recorded programmes, the Irish language has been replaced with "Conversation in Irish". So they'd have a long way to go before they could subtitle the news live for four or five hours each night, and furthermore, if they'd be willing to go to those "lengths" for a dead slot like 2-6am.

If what you've said could be done though, it would be nice.

Speaking of nice, I only caught a bit of tonight's (4 March) Nine O'Clock, and what I saw, I liked. At 21:05 , the cut from the WS back to Anne was perfectly cued, meaning Anne's speech just flowed and it all looked the better for it. Leave the file run and you'll reach 21:46 , where Gerry Fleming tries out a new aid to tell us about the week ahead. It too looked good I thought - just try not to watch the rest of the forecast, you'll only upset yourself.

But, and there's always a but, the same can't be said for the Six-One. Shortly after the astons appeared, Justin Tracey made loads of mistakes from 23:14 right up until the "check on the day's scores" ended at 23:54. Note in particular the Tyrone score at 23:48 . At a guess, it sounded to me as if the autocue got jammed once again and he was reading it from a monitor which he hadn't a clear view of - in which case it's not his fault to be fair.
