And there is another BBC News Special on BBC1 at 7pm this evening!

I do agree that this coverage is abit over the top - There is other news which has broken this morning which has hardly got a mention

Sky have mentioned both the report on the Northern Bank raid (at the 12:00 TOTH) and the Pope's release from hospital.

These news specials this evening might end up being extended - the couple are having a photocall at 8pm.

The ratio on Central South for the ITN Lunchtime news was all wrong. It was showing a 4:3 picture in a 16:9 shot so ended up squeezing all the action. The transmissions on Anglia West proved unaffected. Central South stayed like this until the end of the first ad break.

A nice bit of scheduling there.

Immediately before Den Watts renews his marriage vows!

ITV News claims to have got the story independently of the Standard

Media Guardian posted:
It [ITV News Channel] said it broadcast the news at 9.03am, six minutes before the Press Association released a "newsflash" saying: "The Prince of Wales is to marry Camilla Parker Bowles, Clarence House announced today."

Sky News said it first mentioned the story at 9.07am, also ahead of the official announcement.

Six minutes! Two minutes! Whoopsie-bloody-doo! What a scoop!

It just hardly matters who gets it first in this case.. if you watch it on BBC News24 you will hardly have missed anything if you watched it in ITV News.

Just how big a story does it have to be to get the BBC1 team to front their news specials.

I always complain about this at major events - it wouldn't be so bad if BBC1 simulcast BBC News 24 but without the DOGs etc.

Also, did BBC1 stick with Breakfast or go into the next programme. I found out at 10am with one daytime programme ending then the News 24 special beginning.

I assume despite it being a relative low-key affair (in royal wedding standards!) it'll be covered live on TV.

Well if there's already a dedicated news service from the BBC which they can simply opt into at no extra cost, there's hardly any reason to justify powering up N6, providing a full team and a presenter, all of whom would be some form of rehearsal or editing for the next One bulletin. Plus it's another chance for the Beeb to splash the N24 DOG around the screen!
