ITV News ran it as Exclusive until the Clarence House confirmed it. Sky News and BBC News 24 broke it (not until it was confirmed) just after, in that order. GMTV at 9:13. Breakfast on BBC One not until 9:14.
In the past such announcements would have been on BBC One first. Quite a big thing for ITV to get the exclusive.

News Report on ITV1 with the woman off London Tonight making her ITV1 debut!
Cut off early for Trisha! You would've thought they could have given the report at least two minutes rather than just one!

No, no, no... hold on.
Let's just get this clear. It was NOT an ITV exclusive.
ITV and the BBC have so far totally ignored the fact that it is the Evening Standard who've been doing all the running on this story. Only Sky have credited them with that.
ITV just got wind of it, as the Standard was due to go to press with it in a couple of hours, and Tom Bradbury landed on air shouting 'exclusive'.
Cheap... and I imagine the Evening Standard are absolutely f*cking livid.

I think the way it works is that there are tv exclusives, newspaper exclusives and even radio exclusives.
Surely it is the Evening Standard's best interests to get a tv station on board to also break the story to sell even more copies.
We do not know what has happened behind the scenes - how would ITV News find out about the Evening Standard's exclusive without them telling him - ie wanting free publicity for their publication?
But at the end of the day ITV News Channel did have the tv exclusive on the story - simple as that.

Clarence House confirmed the news after the story was exclusively revealed in the Evening Standard.
Well it appears that the 'exclusive' was there for all to 'acquire' - just that ITV News got the tv exclusive first after the 8am edition of Evening Standard hit the streets.
