I've been recording the BBC's output and I have to say the few special graphics that there were on Breakfast this morning were of an embarrassingly poor quality. You'd have thought for an event of this scale a bit of effort could have been put into the presentation, yet it seems whenever they require something even slightly off template, we always end up with sequences that look like they were churned out in 5 minutes on PowerPoint.
There was also an odd close to the programme that didn't seem to work as intended.
Well as many said, I thought ITV got the tone of the event spot on. BBC did seem sombre in comparison.
It was also a good addition by ITV to include the split screen given that this is a multi-location event, prevents you from missing something going on elsewhere. As far as I could tell the BBC haven't made use of this ?
Shame it won't be reflected in the viewing figures.
The international feed is still running just showing beauty scenes from Buckingham Palace now and the crowds there.
Hmm, it went from YouTube at the same time as the BBC programme finished.
The BBC international feed officially ended at the same time as the BBC One programme, but continued with Sky's helicopter shots for a little while after.
The BBC coverage of the balcony bit started out really promisingly with that slow zoom from the Victoria Memorial towards the palace before everybody came out. But, aside from all the confusion with cutting to Jake, why did they completely fail to get a wide angle shot of *either* set of planes going down the Mall? They almost missed the typhoons and tornados completely. Surely that was going to be the most impressive bit - were there trees in the way or something?
Similar story on ITV vis-à-vis the flypast, unfortunately. Failed to get a contextual shot of the planes, and Phillip Schofield managed to drown out the noise by enthusing about engine models, among other fascinating aeronautical facts.
I must say I was impressed by all the coverage by our broadcasters- the BBC was good, if a little bit sombre, but still excellent, especially letting the wedding talk for itself without any commentary really, except right at the start.
ITV had the potential to be reallllllly bad, but turned out to be probably the best, Julie & Phil exceled themselves and the tone of the coverage was just right. Maybe if they'd been in a studio with a window instead of outside we could have avoided the constant shouts for Philip....
Sky was all right. I watched for a while. I liked how they didn't cut to the presenters hardly at all, staying with pictures, but Kay Burley's inane commentary about hats really grated me.....
CNN wasn't very good- fine for the American audience but Cat Deeley and Piers Morgan were probably the worst possible combination, also the coverage was a bit all over the place, and why was the business presenter leading it earlier on in the day?
Phil and Julie for Daybreak Seriously though they have worked well together and I've enjoyed their coverage. Being where they are positioned helped relaying the atmosphere. It felt at times Huw was tucked away in a glass bubble.
In terms of studios, BBC have got the best. Yes, rather plain and simple, but that works the best, I feel. I flicked over to Sky News to see an big, overly formal desk, and ITV's looks very common with artificial flowers and horrible sofa things.
The graphics on the BBC have been very good as well. I think the font used would be very good instead of Gill Sans for the next news graphics, and the incredible simplicity of white/grey with red and blue tones has been very understated and clean. Don't like ITV News' graphics overly and haven't seen Sky News'.

CNN's Becky Cooper having fun vox popping...
Guest - "I'm from Greece"
Becky - "Have you come just for the wedding?"
Guest - "No I live here"
Becky - "It would have been a much better story if you had just said yes!"
Getting more inane in topic conversation now. Kate Garraway asks person who works in shop in Bucklebury, "What sorts of things does Kate buy?" - "Everyday things".
I'll be sticking with BBC. Talking about food, but it has much more relevance.
I seem to remember someone mentioning that the BBC pod is the elections pod (nice reuse there, good move) - does anyone have any shots of it in use then? Would be nice to compare how they've changed the inside look for this.
