So in their five minutes on the balcony the BBC decided it would be wise to cut away twice to a rather unreliable OB. Yes, a nice idea to get a camera on a plane in the flypast, but something which could be shown in a report later rather than live. Also ridiculously drawn out headline sequence to the 1.40 news bulletin, and a return to hideously oversized and opaque graphics stating the bloody obvious.
As for ITV - interesting they've got Andrew Neil with them. He often turns up on ITV on election night too - you'd think the BBC would make better use of their main parliamentary broadcaster really rather than gifting him to the opposition for the big events.
And no surprise to see at the Downing Street party they're taking the Sky feed.
This news bulletin on BBC ONE seems a bit misplaced, pretty much ending the main coverage only 5 mins after the balcony appearance and reviewing what everyone has already seen. Surely it would have been better scheduled after 2pm.
EDIT: And as mentioned above, I wasn't sure if the headlines were still ongoing or if the bulletin had started, they were so drawn out!
Wish I had access to ITV. Sounds good, judging by all your comments. I had to make do with BBC World, which was ok actuallly. Huw all the way. Mishal Husain has just taken over again from him on World. Dipped into CNN briefly. It was terrible with all presenters in that studio trying to outdo each other, meaning we couldn't actually hear anything. And the sound from that studio was very echo-y.
The BBC coverage of the balcony bit started out really promisingly with that slow zoom from the Victoria Memorial towards the palace before everybody came out. But, aside from all the confusion with cutting to Jake, why did they completely fail to get a wide angle shot of *either* set of planes going down the Mall? They almost missed the typhoons and tornados completely. Surely that was going to be the most impressive bit - were there trees in the way or something?
