Was I the only one who kept thinking CrimeWatch during the broadcast ?
YES! I was constantly thinking that. Hideous bit of design. Shame as the font for the name captions themselves was actually rather nice. What font is that one?
It was typical BBC, having to create a 'brand' and a logo for every event. They could have just used 'Royal Wedding' or had no abstract logo.

It's this kind of thing that led the BBC creating two logos every week, and the 1997 rebrand that sorted this all out. It's a shame it's all been undone now.
He said that he would feature in the highlights although I didn't see it myself. He would be bitterly disappointed considering the amount of prep work etc that he did for it. In his F1 role he doesn't get much time off and the royal wedding took up a big chunk of that time.

Yeah, if only he could get paid for all that work, especially considering the amount of effort he must have put in to organise the entire live link up to an aircraft. These sort of things don't go together in a few minutes!
The last thing anyone wanted when the iconic balcony appearance was taking place, was a cut away to on board to aircraft, however impressive that might be.
If it had worked fully, BBC viewers could have ended up missing the 'kiss'.
It appeared in the highlights bit - just the shot looking down flying over the palace and a cutaway from the side.
Smart idea, but failed technically!
Interestingly Sky used the shot from the plane looking down over the palace in their 'montage'
Sky also used the shot looking down during its live coverage, as the flypast was happening.
Which is why Eamonn Holmes and co. were confused when Samantha Simmonds, who was on the ground, was talking about the second kiss. It took Sky News about 15 minutes or so to realise there was a second kiss, and get footage of it.
