If the BBC's viewing figures are higher it's because people assumed there would be adverts on ITV.

Well obvioulsy it's a given that BBC will outrate ITV by quite a big margin, but I do hope ITV get a decent audience, even if it was say e.g. Total Audience 25m, BBC1 17m, 8m ITV1. For the World Cup final BBC always outrate ITV by about 4/5:1

I'm suprised ITV didn't make a bigger deal of the fact thay weren't having ad's. Apart from a some mentions from Phil on twitter etc and on ITV News, it wasn't made very known. Don't think it was mentioned in their promo either.

I agree, their coverage reminded me of the days back in the 70s and early 80s, where coverage of national and international events (notably the 1981 Royal Wedding, and the Apollo space missions) was far more 'accessible' and less stuffy than the Beeb's.

I strangely loved ITV's coverage. It was fun and engaging whilst also informative. Just what something like this should be.

ITV's montage was lovely :')

I agree! I have a thing for montages Laughing

Music was Light Me Up by Tom Baxter.

I knew it was Tom Baxter! Trying to copy BBC Sport's excellent montages, with ITV doing a similar excellent montage, well done. Very Happy

The verdict is out on the Royal Wedding Coverage

ITV's coverage was absolutely fantastic, the pairing of Philip and Julie was genius - they worked really well together and you could tell that they were having a good time as well. I thought ITV's studio was in a great spot, you got a sense of the great atmosphere with the crowd and Philip engaging with them every now and then was brilliant. And I think it goes without saying that Mark Austin in the crowd was a highlight - he was even trending on Twitter! Laughing

As mentioned earlier in the thread, it's a shame that the viewing figures inevitably won't resemble just how good ITV's coverage was.

Guardian seems to agree with the majority on here.

Royal Wedding TV coverage: Who did it best?
In the battle of how they saw Kate and William's big day, the main bout was between ITV and the BBC ... and the commercial broadcaster easily came out on top

ITV do seem to excel on these big events, and Daybreak did well too. Its just a shame they can't keep the standard for the rest of the year and perhaps Daybreak and ITV News wouldn't be in the state its in! At 5.55pm I fully expect ITV will be back to Daily Mail style reporting and how The Royal Wedding affects you , the viewer, which is a shame as they could effectively undo the good they've done today.

I wonder, seeing as there were no commercials, and therefore no particular pressure to attract whatever audience ITV's beancounters are endlessly searching for, ITN's production teams were just left 'to get on with it', and produce what they wanted. Lively, relevant, and entertaining coverage ?

By the way, loved that gently soaring perspective over the abbey.

That above shot was truly magnificent, it almost felt like it was part of a Hollywood film when I was watching it on the TV. I loved the upwards, turning zoom they did of the bells before and after the wedding as well.

Has anyone mentioned that ITV's credits featured the ITV and STV website addresses but not UTV's?
