More Fox "accuracy" - referring to the Queen's Annus Horribilus as the year Diana died - it wasn't, it was 1992, when Diana and Charles separated.

It did make me laugh when the usually decent CNN (international, I might add) stated in one of their special programmes "Kate is what Britons usually call a 'commoner'".

interesting that [from the snippets of output i've seen] bbc world seem to be calling it the british royal wedding. whilst true, wills is also a future king of canada, australia etc...

RTÉ as well, "The British Royal Wedding". TV3 calling it simply "The Royal Wedding".

The international version of news.bbc.co.uk has a link "UK Royal Wedding". It had banner ads.

a quick look at abc australia's website suggests they're taking the bbc feed in-tact. surprising, as presumably this falls right into primetime, and you'd think they'd want to cover it from an australian angle.

many other world broadcasters simply taking bbc/itn programmes?

If I remember correctly, my Australian friend told me at the weekend that Australia's ABC2 will be running The Chaser's Royal Wedding Commentary, as an alternative to the main channel's serious coverage. For those who don't know, the Chaser's are a satirical/comedy group from Down Under.

Anyone seen any pictures of the "media village" in Green Park?

I remember seeing Jennie Bond doing a piece to camera outside Buckingham Palace stood on a set of stepladders back in 1995! However, I suspect things might have moved on a bit since then Laughing

Well I almost was going to say that! Laughing

Don't worry - I know what you mean!

There's a slightly raised semi-circular walkway on the opposite side of the roundabout to the Palace, on either side of the Mall. It's open to the public - but they sometimes close bits of it off so the media can use it. The temporary studios have been built on top of the bit of it to the right of the Mall.

You can see it quite well on Google Streetview here: http://bit.ly/erfSeb

Haha I'm not totally mad then! :lol I thought I was, as looking on TV Newsroom last night, the screenshots seemed to show another view, lower down on the ground.

Thanks for that link, I did have try to have a look on Google Streetview before I posted here, but it was playing up!

Funilly enough as I was reading your message ITV News were showing the report about all the media decending on London and and they were intervewing one or two media people on the raised walkway, obviously normally you'd just get the usual Buckingham Palace background but cause they were interviewing media, you got a few behind the scenes shots.

I think they key word there is 'future'.

If William were King and getting married, then you'd be right, as he'd be King of Canada, King of Australia etc.

However I don't think that Prince William has any formal role in other countries does he - unlike the Queen? So really this is a British Royal Wedding isn't it?

It's too big to get in one photo, the trees get in the way Wink

Imagine lots of satellite trucks, a whole host of flyaway dishes, and several of those large white marquees you see at big events. All taking up about half of Green Park.

I have a feeling that Green Park is in that BBC video report a page or two back.

In all seriousness, what kind of view are the 'studios' in front of the Abbey likely to give on screen? And how do these set ups work in terms of 'ownership' and management? Who controls them and who decides who gets which lot? Is it a case of the highest bidder gets the better lot, or are 'better' ones reserved for certain types of broadcaster (e.g. British first, or a limit to number of lots per broadcaster)?

Usually you pay for the amount of space you want. Either the most important and/or those who pay the most get the best spots. This time its the British broadcasters who've got the prime positions.

Building and management is usually done by a company on behalf of whoever owns the land. In this case its owned by the Department of Communities and Local Government (they own the QEII Centre). You can pay them (or their nominated provider) for facilities or arrange your own people (or chosen contractor) to install whatever is required.

There aren't any studios as such- bar a few quickly thrown together portacabins. Most are 'standup' positions. Single camera jobs for most broadcasters. Think BBC and ITN have 2/3 cameras on their main ones.

The view will be excellent- directly across from the Abbey.

Yes, I come past there fairly often, last week it was just boarding and a few marquees, now it's a massive sat-truck parking lot. There were about 3 or 4 of the Buckingham Palace studios being used this afternoon... it'll look very impressive when they're all being used simultaneously.

There's a couple of photos on Twitter of NBC's setup in the bottom of the ITN building: http://twitpic.com/4pv3gg and http://yfrog.com/h4ni6jlj Their studio at Buckingham palace is easily recognisable as they have chairs with the Today logo on them, it's bigger and to the left of the main structure. With these and the 'Morning Joe' studio in Trafalgar Square they have a huge setup and apparently more staff and resources than Channel 4 News . Mind you they don't do things by half, their Olympic setup dwarfs everyone else too
