Personally I would use news channel for signed coverage, to leave BBC2 free to offer alternative programming (could always include a news bulletin)

(In the past BBC2 has been used for signed coverage of major royal events)

That's not a bad idea and at least means the news channel is showing something of additional value then rather than just a simulcast.

Talking of BBC2, I do wonder on these occassions where the BBC and ITV simulcast events how different the ratings balance would be if the BBC coverage was on BBC2 rather than BBC1. I suspect the BBC would still win, but I think the scales would tip slightly in ITV1's direction - though I suspect the combined figure would be lower.

Not that much of a surprise but I thought it would have been David Dimbleby

No surprise at all. Frankly from a cost perspective surely better to use Huw too, as part of his news commitments I'd imagine, rather than bring in the Dimbleby.

BBC Parliament would probably be available for a signed version (as it's going to be a Bank Holiday and I suspect Parliament would be in recess for Easter anyway), letting the News Channel get on with rolling news.

Question is how likely the NC is to continue 'rolling news' on a day like this, regardless of signed coverage.

Let's hope that whilst Huw is in a nice glass box somewhere near the Abbey, there is no need for Ben Brown to be on the floor with a Crash Helmet, like he did last week!!

I wonder who will be Huw's 2IC on the day? Maybe Emily? Or Sian? Or Sophie?

It will definitely be a female presenter, that's for sure.

I am sure it'll be Sophie, she's been the preferred choice of female presenter for some time now with regards to anything Royal or Remembrance, and she's excellent at it.

Didn't she lead the Princess of Wales 10 year anniversary service coverage as well?

Didn't she cover Prince Charles' wedding to Camilla?

Yes she did, and Huw was supposed to present that as well, but he was at the Pope's funeral, so Dermot Murnaghan did it. The stuff in the papers about Dimbleby being replaced ignore the fact he didn't do that wedding, or Edward's, which was presented by Michael Buerk and Sue Barker.
