I was watching ITV before 4pm when William left and all I could hear was Kay Burley...
Why doesn't that surprise me.

Looks like BBC One have decided not to interrupt the film.

I don't think it would have been that surprising if BBC One didn't take the coverage, we are in a multi-channel world now after all (although there was no caption to tell you to turn over if you wanted), let alone the various other ways you could follow the coverage online instead if you liked. But there had already been interruptions throughout the day, such as the very hasty news report (well, cut to the News Channel) during Saturday Kitchen and the various news specials added into the schedule throughout the day. That's why I'm a little surprised that in the end they decided not to cut away from the film, but they'll have avoided a lot of criticism they would have gotten if they had.
Similarly, ITV's rolling coverage of a door may have looked over-the-top and unnecessary on the surface. But by dropping their usual schedule they have avoided upsetting viewers by interrupting their film or other programming, and picked up casual viewers who were looking for live coverage on BBC One. The only real casualty was the local news, which maybe they could have delayed or replaced You've Been Framed with.

Arise pre-record some of their bulletins.
London Live despite having a live news bulletin didn't go back to Paddington until 6.30 with some really piss-poor shots.

Looking at my recording, Sky still managed to squeeze in a repeat airing of Swipe and a sports bulletin between 1430-1500.

Well yes, it's so quick that they'd either have to duck out of the film and sit on a shot of the door for a while or wait until the door's opening, by which time they'd miss most of it.
With a news bulletin imminent it's a no brainer to wait. It really doesn't matter if it's not shown live - I was watching Come Dine With Me and saw it on the BBC news later and don't feel I missed anything
Does seem a poor choice, though of course it's less than a minute of footage they can show in full in half an hour

Important to note though that the other news specials were interrupting a live programme for a couple of minutes, replacing an easily-droppable morning repeat and used as a filler after the underrunning snooker. Very different to interrupting the early-evening film.
