Aw, how sad. Definitely one of the best of his era.

The last link to the earliest days of BBC Television News. And, of course, one of the finest British newscasters of all time.

RIP Richard.

One mustn't forget his strong association with classical music, either - in particular, his many years presenting the Last Night of the Proms:

And long before Strictly and even La Rippon, was probably the first ever BBC Newsreader to dance (and cartwheel) on Television........

Comedy aside, I really liked Richard Baker’s style of presentation.

I know he wasn’t a trained “journalist”. But nevertheless, he could handle an interview with ease.

There’s no-one left from that era now.

Richard’s son Andrew will be one of Luke Jones’ guests on PM at 5.

The days when RP worked for a presenter even if they weren't a journalist. I miss the authority those chaps had.
Closedown and Markymark gave kudos

Apparently he used to collate items from the newspapers and read his own 6 o clock news to his friends in his nursing home
