I think losing the ITV News Channel has probably had a big affect on Sky News's attitude.
With the three channels the style of Sky News kind of sat somewhere in between News 24 and ITV News, and with it competing on two fronts (content vs the BBC, style vs ITV), they had about the right balance.
Removing ITV News has left a bit of a vacuum with News 24 now the only enemy. The trouble now though is when they concentrate on attacking them, they are failing to defend the positions that used to be key in their battle against ITV.
I would start by putting Faye Barker on as a regular. Sky also needs to drop their fascination with "Breaking News" straps on things that isnt actually that new or breaking (OK BBC News 24 seems to be edging that way too)
Make better use of their vast open space studio. More Structured programmes like news 24 such as entertainment sport etc not just reports.
The best way to save Sky News is to improve the journalism. To do this Ofcom need to force Murdoch to sell it and stop interfering in the UK media business. Sky subscriptions are a complete rip off and as he famously said he would charge for Sky News if it were not for the BBC & ITN Channels being free. 1 Down 1 to go.

i really don't see how moving the presenters around the studio will enhance viewing figures. They did that at first when they were showing off their new toy, there is no need for that anymore.
So how does sitting them behind a desk all day increase ratings then?
It doesn't but the BskyB management were desperate to launch HD services and so money had to be saved. I suspect that the desk presentation came about as a way of reducing staff at sky centre who are on the studio floor etc or as a practicality of having fewer people.
I would agree that content needs to drastically improve. I am suprised thy have not even had a package on the Somalian troubles. With an award-winning journalist such as Emma Hurd based as the Africa reporter you would have thought....
I would not personally change the schedule that much, I would use better content and get use sky news 2pm-5pm as a slot with more international stories etc as well as domestic news. I would keep sky news with martin at 8, I think that te 7pm slot needs to kept free for news really - but thats just my opinion. I would actually quite like to see global news updates from some of the sky news offices around the world incorporated into Live at 5 and 6pm-8pm. This could take the form of a report, or a live summary of key events fo interest from that region.
Reading through the posts I think the only one which is really correct is the one that says the important thing is to get the presenter pairings right. This is I think where they've lost the way.
Having Jeremy Thompson, Martin Stanford and Kay Burley on their own is just madness - blatant ego massaging. While I like and respect them all as broadcasters, it just feels wrong having them on their own.
It works on News 24 with Huw, but I think this is because News 24 is a different sort of channel and can do the slower paced hour at 5pm. Sky News is a breaking news first channel, and you need two presenters for this.
You also have to look at what News 24 are doing right to make their ratings increase. It may not be Sky losing viewers, but News 24 gaining them. I'm very impressed at the way the BBC seem to be blurring the boundaries between the role of reporter and presenter. It just seems to be a team of people who are equally happy reporting from a scene and presenting from behind a desk (and both the N6 and N8 desks at that).

You hit the nail there. The atmosphere is completely different. This has been mentioned in the sky news thread about how the whole pace of the feeling that you get off the channel has changed, since it relaunched in October 2005.

I think your totally wrong. I think the Appointment to View Strands of Sky - Lunchtime Live, Live at Five and Martins Show are the best strands. It is the rest of the output that needs looking at.
