Are you kidding? Last time I watched Scotland Today, sometime between Christmas and New Year, the programme finished around two minutes before the hand-back to the ITV lunchtime news. The presenter padded for around 20 seconds, plugged the website, etc. It then cut to a wide shot, in silence, for maybe another 10 seconds, before we were treated to about a minute of ITV News sting (in silence), which restarted, along with the bed music, for perhaps another 45 seconds.

I know they had a problem over the festive period when one of their servers crashed just before they went on air which is what you might be talking about.

It gets funnier - they held it together for a bit, used the usual script and packages, and went back to Celtic Park with Jane and former Celtic manager Billy McNeil - just in time for the fire alarm to go off again.

They've hauled out a sports reporter from the newsroom to pad for five minutes, and only now are they beginning to struggle a bit.

Not too bad though considering.

It was meant to be a 2 min interview with Hugh Dallas they lost but it just feels like 5 mins when they're padding like mad. I heard Raman was just finishing his package when he had to dash up to the studio with five mins to the sport. They did very well considering the circumstances and threr are now a few Celtic Park conspiracy theories going around STV now especially after the second fire alarm went off as soon as they cut back Very Happy

Scotland Today is a load of rubbish it has been for some time. How can anyone think that Shereen is good. She looks haggard and stutters through most of her scripts it's time for a change. Also looking tired and with a poor voice is Jane Lewis.. how the hell has she gotten away with it for so long. On the reporters from where do we start. Roddy Scott should be sent back to journalism school, Raman Bhardwaj.. where the hell did they get him from?
It's poor... it's ITV local tv for local people at its worst and Reporting Scotland is no better. It's parochial pap.

Could anybody tell me the second names of the regular sports presenters (Rhona and Alison) on Reporting Scotland please? I need them for an assignment I'm doing at uni, and the BBC don't appear to properly ID presenters on screen on the main programme.....I hope someone can help!

Thanks

I should contribute more to this thread. Unfortunately, it doesn't let me change my profile to show off my Scottishness and allow people to approach me, and randomly embrace my nationality.

Rhona McLeod, I think, but I'm not sure about Alison though.

Tough call for Scotland Today tonight - most of the chaos caused by the floods has happened in the Grampian and Border regions, but even I can see that ignoring it would be a slight omission. So we've had the Grampian reporter on (unfortunately with her "Grampian TV" jacket on) before the report, and I assume she's on Grampian now.

Given the circumstances I suppose I can't criticise them too much for going outwith their region this time around. However they will have to have proper coverage of the problems in the central belt (every train cancelled, etc.) or they may as well have just showed North Tonight.

Btw - STV reporters are at Oban and Fort William - are they within Scottish TV's borders? I think Fort William normally pops up on the STV weather map.

Have to say I think Reporting Scotland has destroyed Scotland Today tonight. David Robertson was in Oban (I think) and someone else was live from near the Forth Bridge, and they anchored it well with the right amount of gravitas. Having said that, STV were inevitably hampered by it being mostly outwith their area, and having smaller resources. I suppose the BBC were waiting for an excuse to do tons of stuff about the north of Scotland that's actually news for a change, to tick some boxes. (Normally they find any excuse to do some crap about wildlife in Shetland, or something equally obscure, just to say they've covered those areas).

Well I think it is great that you got to see a reporter with a grampian jacket on - you will now know what it feels like - we get the scottish tv mic logo all the time there is a report from Hampden etc- dont be so petty I am sure she did an ok job..................................

.....................................on saying that North Tonight came live tonight from the Hydro Electric control room in Perth and what a total mess of a programme. From the opening titles to the closing credits - cock ups all the way - come on Grampian get a grip!!

Oh it was fine by me, it just seemed slightly unfortunate to be linking to a presenter with a different station's jacket on without saying "from our sister station" or something along those lines. Having said that they made sure the camera was just far enough away to make it very blurry and difficult to see.

And she didn't do particularly badly - perhaps Grampian were too busy making sure Scotland Today went ok. Razz

It was very poor tonight from start to end. Grampian tends to go to pot when they are taken out of the studio situation and the live links tonight were a shambles!

You are right with the cross promotion - maybe a mention of the Scottish reporter the next time we get a report from Glasgow.

Both are within the STV region. Fort William is a bit of an odd one but Scotland Today have a stringer up there covering that area. As for Oban I think it was part of the old Strathclyde region and is still covered by Strathclyde police and fire services.

STV are at it again pinching Grampian stories two in total tonight.

One story from Benbecula where they had an STV reporter alongside a Grampian reporter both using the same mic.Grampian reporter did a live piece for NT first then went into her VT piece. Then STV reporter does her live piece on Scotland Today then went into her VT piece meanwhile Grampian reporter comes back to NT live cleverly covering up the Scot Today logo on the mic she finishes her live piece as the STV VT continues and then the STV reporter comes back to Scot Today live .

The Western Isles family tragedy is big news but it's not in the STV viewing area .Also STV had a live report of "Breaking News" from the Edinburgh Newsroom about a computer hacker in Elgin Grampian just covered it very quickly on NT.Elgin is way off the STV beat what the hell are they playing at why must they always take Grampian stories .
