Oh do not get me wrong 623058 - I agree with your thoughts on better stories - but as far as I am concerned the set matches the uniform sets of all other BBC News programmes. IMO the set looks good.

However, I think it would just be nice to see a fresh face fronting the programme. I think that may give it a boost and rejuvenated theme.

If they really wanted to save money they should just have one presenter such as Jackie Bird and a deputy who may be groomed to become the main anchor - perhaps Glenn Campbell. That is just my opinion.

It says on the BBC Scotland news page that they are going back to one anchor. I agree with 632058 that there is a new look needed for the set. Although it fits in with the BBC look, it is a very bland imitation. When you see pictures of Newsline or Wales Today, they look a lot better IMO.

I see what you are saying NT but do not think Wales Today or Newsline have better sets - however I am no Ann Maurice or Linda Barker.

The news page indeed says that one presenter will be used...but I was infering that a deputy would be used as cover and not used to finish someone's sentences. For example, Fiona Bruce is referred to as Huw Edwards' deputy on the BBC News at Ten.

Maybe the could consider dropping the sports presenter? I agree with the comments that it's time to get some fresh blood in Reporting Scotland. And the " journalisitic quality " would improve IMO if the spent more time on proper stories, and less time telling us what was coming up or what Celtic / Rangers did Wink

You are SO right when it comes to the Rangers and Celtic reportage Smile . I hope sport features heavily in the future though - however many bodies are let loose in the studio Wink

No - not yet. It will be next Monday I think. Wonder who it will be Jackie or Sally? I think it may be Jackie for some reason?

I'm sure i read somewhere that it will be single headed from 29th September following David Robertson's departure. Have to say i was quite shocked he is leaving the BBC. He has done so much during his 20? years with them.

yes here we go http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7626441.stm

Yeah was an accomplished journalist. He was younger than Jackie as well. Sally is in her fifties now as well...so I wonder if she will stick about long now?

If Sally would left IMO it would be a great loss - she has far more gravitas than the Bird.

Do you know I bought the rumours surrounding Jackie and Anne in the mid nineties...but I have dramatically shifted towards Jackie Bird over the years. Jackie is no heavyweight - but she is bloody good at what she does and has a personality that shines across...whether that is genuine - I do not know but I think Jackie Bird like it or not 'is' Reporting Scotland.
I think it boils down to her having a huge following and I think while Sally has more gravitas...she is not seen as Reporting Scotland - how many times do reporters call her 'Jackie' and how many times does Jackie get called 'Sally'?
I really rate the Anne Mackenzies and Sally Magnussons of this world...but it is the Jackie Birds that do better because they connect better with the viewer and that is what makes then last longer.

Can I just say that now Reporting Scotland is single-headed like the rest of BBC One's news programmes, how much more dynamic the programme is looking.

It feels much more like a real well-produced news programme, with various different positions and usage of the plasma screens giving the programme a new lease of life.

Thoughts?

Edit: Forgot to add - it appears they now have a live shot of the Clyde for use behind Jackie. Its clearly taken from the side of the river the new BBC Scotland building is on, rather than before when it was straight down the middle.
