The hair straighteners and make-up bags would have been out in force before tonight's edition of Reporting Scotland. Not the usual male/female double header presenting.
We had Sally Magnusson and Abeer McIntyre presenting with Rhona McLeod on Sport and Heather Reid on weather.

and still the reports seem so dry and pointless! Confused

I quite like the new set. I prefered it when they filled all three screens with the Clyde-cam rather than use two for the Reporting Scotland logo though.

Shame the news content is still bloody awful and reliant on Scottish Government press releases though.

I prefer the look of the space when used by Newsnight Scotland. The lighting and the different camera angles seem to do it more justice:

I think we're going to have to see whether this thing you accuse them of is justified.

I watched last night and I couldn't see a single example of this.

Actually, that capture above actually demonstrates long-service at BBC Reporting Scotland. If I am not mistaken, haven't Sally Magnusson, Heather the Weather, Rhona McLeod and Abeer Parkes (McIntyre) all been on RS for at least ten years?? Sally and Heather might even be much longer than that, in fact.

Anyone know if they've passed the 40th birthday mark yet? And were there any " celebrations "?

( That's RS, not any of the presenters! )

What part of the tedious, five minute long box-ticking stories about Orkney, Aberdeenshire or anywhere in the north to try and balance out the fact that most real news happens in the central belt did you not notice?

Aside from that, STV push stories further than their BBC counterparts on a consistent basis.

The BBC gives the impression of the Partick Media Mafia doing its level best to just get on with its job and piss off home at 5pm, with two presenters who have the chemistry of the pair from Anchorman.

STV gives the impression of a bunch of younger journalists eager to make their name, and actually proper regional news so I don't need to watch pish from Aberdeen, and a limited amount from Edinburgh, because THAT'S THE POINT OF REGIONAL NEWS. Despite having one millionth of the resources.

I know what I'd rather watch.

No, I was referring to "Scottish Government press releases", not "box ticking stories from the north".

I'm not sure they can win with you, can they? They certainly didn't have any of the former (that I saw), but yes, it did feature stories from Aberdeen and Inverness.

Seems a little unfair that you would criticise them for that, though. Those people pay a licence fee too, and are entitled to at least token representation.

Of course more happens in the central belt, but it would be outrageous for them not to cover stories from the rest of Scotland, too.

Perhaps we should push for sub-opts for a more local flavour?

But its a well produced programme, even in its current form.

I think your criticisms are very overstated, at times.
