It seemed everybody was trying to jump onto the Rangers game bandwagon coverage-wise - I'm not a football follower, and I couldn't escape the report which was top story over a murder on the late news on Granada!

Probably because the game was in Manchester, but I think it had much too much exposure.

I disagree, it was the UEFA Cup Final. It always gets heavy coverage. Why it was hosted in Manchester and not in Scotland or Russia beats me, but I guess that was a decision taken by the organizers.

From an editorial perspective though, a death definitely overshadows a silly football match.

No, the UEFA Finals are awarded after a bidding process. Obviously it'll be a neutral venue, though in some cases by a complete fluke it isn't (say if Man City had made the UEFA Cup final)

On the violence topic - though not being a Rangers fan, so I'm not biased, but before last night, there was not one single arrest of a Rangers fan after all their away games in Europe this season - not bad going!

To go back to my original point Rolling Eyes some coverage of Rangers would have been fine. Last night completely took the biscuit - the first fifteen minutes devoted to the subject, then TWO MINUTES of news and back to people standing about talking about Rangers until the weather.
And this was about the fourth or even fifth night so much coverage was given to one subject.

It doesn't matter how many people support a team, or how wide a fan base they have, as the grinning jester Jackie always reminds us, this is Scotland's ONLY national news programme, and should be far more reflective of what is going on across Scotland IMO.

And yes, other forum writers are correct IMO North Tonight was just as bad for having it as their top story last night.

Loving the Anti-Rangers bias in a TV thread.
Not really the time or the place to be talking about Football.

Well ironically enough, I actually think today football, of sorts, should be given high prominence in the Scottish news. I didn't catch RS or NT today, but I hope suitable coverage was given to the tragic passing of Tommy Burns, the quiet man of Scottish football who achieved simply amazing things.

Yes it was, with Rangers fans united in grief with the Celtic fans.

The RS weather at the weekends is confusing me...On Saturday it was back to " big words " which are meant to convey the weather for the whole of the country. On Sunday it was a forecaster...

What's going on? Confused

I was led to believe that due to the fact that they only have one bulletin on Saturday, Saturdays are much less staffed than even Sundays? Notice how on Sunday the proper studio is used, along with weather forecasters, whereas Saturday uses the 'Newsnight Scotland replacement set' and no weather forecaster - I guess for one 5 minute bulletin its just not cost effective?

Fair enough, but they could have a map at least with the news reader voicing over, instead of a set of large words which are meant to sum up the weather for the whole nation.

The main studio is not normally used on Saturdays as it is being used by Sport and the turnaround is too tight, there's no staffing differences. The weather on the Sunday is supplied by London, as the bulletin is a slightly longer duration.
