Ah right, I wasn't aware the bulletin came from the studio. This being the real newsroom not the generic newsroom they had behind before today's new desk. Any word on whether they're will be additional studio space after the move to allow both programmes to make use of studios at the same time.

There's only one news tv studio at Pacific Quay, as far as I know.

Well NS looks pretty with a purple desk

That seems rather tight for a national centre, especially considering Newsnight Scotland does appear to be a permanent fixture. It has been running a long time now.

But is it worth spending £££ on building and fitting out an extra studio because of a five minute overlap? Pacific Quay's design should probably make things a bit more flexible anyway.

Could they do a split set like The Politics Show and Sunday AM as in London?

Probably not, as there's at maximum a minute or two between the 10.25pm bulletin and Newsnight Scotland headlines.

Design wise that would work, tight camera work would work, as we saw this week with Sportsround and BBC News. The only problem would be if both programmes ended up broadcasting at the same time (e.g. breaking news), though pre-recording the opening to NS would solve that.

I see - would they stick with a newsroom based bulletin when they move to Pacific Quay then?

Well, I very much doubt that the bit of space at the front of the QMD newsroom is going to waste. BBC Scotland have probably decanted a CSO screen there with a desk for Late/Weekend buletins to come from - after all tonight we did see no wideshot in the late bulletin. Plus, it would be uneconomical for the BBC to staff/maintain/light a studio for 5 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays.

Is there any chance of Mary Marquis or Alan Caldwell ever returning to Reporting Scotland?

BBC Newsline do it - it would be more for the members of staff required. The studio in the newsroom is/was just a desk and cameras all remote controlled from the gallery.
