Is there anywhere on the web that has the Reporting Scotland theme tunes from over the years. There is one that I remember from the early to mid eighties that was quite catchy but can't seem to find it anywhere. (May have been Scotland Today?)

Could you be thinking of the one which used the end bit of MacArthur Park by Donna Summer?

I actually thought you were taking the p*ss there but I have just YouTubed it and YES that was it. That was a great theme. Now if they brought that back as part of the forthcoming BBC news re-brand it would be great. Now to try and find the actual theme tune.........

Mmm, how about a whole 70s disco theme for BBC News - a bit of Gloria Gaynor on the titles to the Ten?

Hey that is a bit mean Don...Jackie is better looking than many younger presenters. In saying that, it would be good to see younger talent coming through on Reporting Scotland now!

On that subject, don't suppose anyone has a copy of the 1998 Rep Scot titles do they? The only place I knew was TV Ark, but the Scotland page is still under construction.

1998 - now THAT was a theme tune. Wish they still used it today - authoritive, but inspiring and not patronising, why can BBC Scotland only pull it out of the bag on certain occasions

This is because the news bosses in London do not want BBC Scotland to have a different identity to the rest of the BBC regions. The uniform style of BBC News curbs any creativity among the nations and regions. Whatever they decide in London goes, not Belfast, Manchester or Glasgow.

And not just the tune either, the titles were quite cool too, especially the " flash " of the saltire.

BTW much prefer a David Henderson and Sally Magnusson line up than Jackie Bird and David Robertson. Far more professional.

Ah, if only one day we will get a BBC Scotland news service for an independent Scotland, so theres no having to toe the London line - BBC Scotland always does it better when they're not told to follow a certain route. Something like the setup of RTE News would be great, just better quality.

I like the idea in theory, but seeing as they can't really fill half an hour with " decent " news, I don't think that I would like the idea in practise.

That might be more down to an editorial issue than anything else - STV seem to manage pretty much a full half hour on both NT and ST.
