Remember PQ was officially opened yesterday, so perhaps the noise we were hearing was a wee after hours party in the newsroom?

Can anyone else hear the horrendous background chatter in PQ over the news? It will be spilling out of the restaurant and up from the foyer as today was open day. No soundproofing whatsoever.
How ironic as they are trumpeting the specially designed building in the bulletin!

I know. That's why I called it, "open day".
It would be easier to dismiss this as a one off if I wan't already aware of the squads of school kids who will be allowed to run around the building shortly, not to mention the bus loads of non-PQ staff who will be coming along for open days - according to PQ magazine.

Ah fair enough, I always classed open days and parties as different things, mind you. That said, I have heard some background noise on evening bulletins from the new building in the past but nothing on that scale.
I will agree with you though that it seems as if there is no soundproofing at all. Something a bit shocking for such an expensive building. An oversight, perhaps?

If they'd used the studio there probably wouldn't have been a problem, but the late bulletin comes from the mini set adjacent to the newsroom. My buddy is an engineer who was there during the installation and he assumed the wee desk was for rehearsals and for junior staff to hone their skills. Even though he's not entirely au fait with television production he assumed that a noisy area like that wouldn't be suitable for broadcast.
And he was right.

That video blog is amusing ... shows how amateur STV really are!
The fact he actually says "we get 50,000 more viewers every night at 6:30" is extremely sad!!
