You'd have thought they would have created some graphics though, I think the blue titles look odd. Are the BBC not able to send out graphic packages and share them with other regions and nations to create a consistent look?
I'd imagine it's more to do with new graphics being saved for Pacific Quay when more drastic changes can be expected.
I can see that they cannot fit Heather into the spacious studio They may as well have Sally sitting on David's knee. I ask WHAT is the point of tinkering with a programme when it's home is getting bulldozed later this year?? I still think it is mince!!
How long have we waited for them to bring a desk back and dump the virtual newsroom?
The desk is good. I didn't think we'd get a perfect match to the Nationals, and half expected a cheaper looking version. I'm not keen on the awkward wide/side shot, but seeing chair legs on Reporting Scotland is nothing new.
I like the fact that they've built a square deck for it to sit on - a detail that could easily have been ignored for its limited airtime. Did it have a lightbox overhead? I only dipped in to watch briefly. I'd be amazed if they could squeeze it into shot in that small space.
The projectors were very bright, and very crisp. Colours were suitably saturated on them. In fact, the "Reporting Scotland" (with rather giant lettering) looked like a large form print when I first tuned in. Not wishy washy one bit.
Was the Glasgow image a still? The picture seemed quite soft and it bit odd.
The strip lights built into the uprights on the set were causing quite a glare in the camera. Are they LED or cold cathode? I'd stick some neutral density filter and a piece of white diffusion over them and it should balance it.
Overall, as clone sets go it's pretty damned good and makes a nice change. The finish looks a wee bit shabby, and I know that's true of ALL sets for television but the cameras always seems to pick it up on Reporting Scotland. Probably because they are so close to it.
If nothing else it's given us something to talk about in Scotland.

Call yourself a presentation enthusiast?
I think you will probably see the desk and platform moved to the new studios, ala Midlands Today. This may mean a couple of days in a CSO studio though. It could also be a pointer to the way Reporting Scotland is going to go in studio design, ala nationals. The graphics will not change until the move, as all of the regions and nations are having updates to all of there graphics this year, created by the new Virz system.
Oh Gavin - I do.
Call yourself an advocate of free speech?
Well yes, as you say, it is "free".
I wouldn't have cost you anything to expand upon your critique. Perhaps you could point to the "mince" aspects so that people may understand your point of view.

While I can never claim to have your vast expertise Gavin - I actually do not think that this is a good look.
You may be shocked - but I usually agree with most of your posts.
However, I would 'personally' prefer BBC News Scotland waiting for a top notch revamp when they move. I cannot understand why they did it now. I also think it looks very crammed.
I think the titles 'mince/rubbish' and that there is too much red. Why could they not do something like Newsline and Wales Today. I like the use of the white in the Cardiff set and I like the usage of space of the Belfast set. I also think that the cityscape is not as good as the one used in the 1999 revamp.
While it is nice to see something different I would have been happy to wait until when they move to Pacific Quay.
