Jings. Forgot about Gordon Hewitt, who was replaced by Dougie Donnelly eventually. Also: George Hume (RIP), Neil Mudie, Alan McKay are/were other RS stalwarts. Are any of them still on the programme today?

I did work experience with Neil Mudie when i was in fourth year at secondary school, back in 1991 with the BBC in Dundee. Smile He was working for STV for a while but think he might be freelance.

Still no sign of Mary Marquis???

If Mary Marquis came back it might be worth watching. Sally Magnusson is the only decent journalist / presenter there.

Personally, I think that they are not wanting to try new talent, as Penny MacMillan and David Henderson are (IMO) not that hot.
Off the young blood, Kirsten Campbell and Glenn Campbell are about the best you can get.
Sally, Jackie and David are tried and tested. If Shereen was ten years younger she would have been placed in front of the cameras, and could have injected some new life to the show?

Or bring back Anne MacKenzie! I quite like the Abeer woman ( sorry can't remember her second name! )

Lol - sadly, I cannot see her returning to Reporting Scotland now.

You never know - remember Sally Magnusson returned from presenting Breakfast Time to present Reporting Scotland!

Have a look at this...is this the same Gordon Hewitt who used to present on BBC Scotland's Scoreboard / Reporting Scotland sports?

My dad's description of the night-time Reporting Scotland set:

"He looks like a photoframe that's come alive" Laughing

God bless the reporter in Ayrshire tonight btw - looked like a rabbit in headlights. Either that or her earpiece clearly wasn't working, as the presenter and reporter kept crashing into each other.

Whereas, on the other hand, Mary Marquis was immensely popular during her reign as the Queen of Queen Margaret Drive.........bring her back and inject a bit of "class" into Reporting Scotland.

A little-known fact is that Mary Marquis began her career with Border Television. So too did Angus Simpson, who later went to STV, and of course Fiona Armstrong who has gone full circle - from Border, to ITN, to GMTV and finally back to Border.

IMO Reporting Scotland is a clone of its former self compared to the days when the likes of Mary Marquis and Viv Lumsden reigned supreme at Queen Margaret Drive.

Now there's a name from the past. I can remember him doing the Saturday sports round-ups. He also had his own chat show on BBC Scotland, "Saturday Night Hewitt" IIRC.

I see it's a CSO they use now on the late bulletins. The wide shot is the main studio backdrop-in-minature, with the top of the old desk in view.

Only the river shot is cso for that bulletin, the set frame is real.

It looks a bit rediculous IMO, it's obvious that it's not the real set becuase everything's so scaled down. I do love that shot though!

I wonder if they've ever got through the programme without ever mentioning Rangers or Celtic? Actually I wonder if they've ever got past the first ten minutes...
