Anyone catch today's lunchtime bulletin? The fire alarm went off in the background during the opening titles. It remained for the first five minutes or so of the programme. Jackie Bird continued throughout, throwing in the odd apology.
Reporting Scotland record their lunch headlines about 5 minutes before they go on air so it could have been going longer than just as they opted out.
Plus BBC policy is for an intermittent bell to ring when there's an alert putting people on standby whilst the alarm is investigated and then if it's genuine then it goes to a constant ring. Still well done they carried on!

Newer buildings - like the Broadcast Centre - use rather polite PA announcements.
"Attention please, attention please. Please leave the building immediately. Do not use the lifts. Please leave the building by the nearest fire exit. [Siren; repeat until someone's worked out where the fault with the alarm system is]". There's a similar one for broadcast critical areas which don't have to be evacuated immediately.
And in another bit of stunning design in that building, they're audible in the con booths.
