Since I am proud of my country of Scotland, I felt it would be fair if us Scot members got our own regional news thread.

To kick it off, what are your views of David Robertson, the fairly new presenter of Reporting Scotland...because I still can't make my mind up whether he is good or just over the top!

I want to know the inside info with David and Jackie .I remember ages ago there was a story in the paper about them making sarcastic comments to each other on air and the article said they don't like each other.I like the younger guy with the dark hair who sometimes presents RPS.

David Robertson has been main co-anchor with Jackie since 2000. You will be referring to David Henderson, who has anchored for about a year or so.

He's ok, but he's still quite wooden.

What happened to Rob McLean and Kheredine Idessane?

The presenter I liked best was Asad Ahmad. I believe he headed back to the bright lights of BBC London a couple of years ago. He was very natural on Reporting Scotland and didn't feel the need to read the news as if he was the voice of god, or be patronising with "ho, ho, ho" style jokes and puns.

He just told you what you needed to know in a down to earth, plain, but friendly, speaking voice. A real pro.

Rob McLean was poached by Setanta to present their SPL coverage.

It is an abysmal programme these days, and IMO, any news bulletin that has newscasters standing up is not worth watching. However, that';s just my personal opinion.

Does anyone else on this forum remember the likes of Louise Tait, Mary Marquis, Viv Lumsden, Kirsty Wark, Harry Smith, Nicholas Cowie, Malcolm Wilson, Alan Caldwell, Alan Douglas, Eddie Mair, Ken Bryson, Neil Mudie, Louise Batchelor, Cathy McDonald and Paddy Christie, who were all anchors / reporters / combinations in the "old" days?

We may not have had sexy graphics and snazzy studios in those days, but at least the presentation quality was consistent and the standard of journalism excellent (not for a moment suggetsing that it isn't now).

The only other onscreen rivalry and disputes that I can recall from the past that haunted the programme for a while was between Marquis and Lumsden and Douglas and Mair. The latter pair in particular had a remarkably frosty on-screen relationship, both very deliberately turning away from each other as the lights went down at the end and the music played. Never once did they engage in the usual closing chit-chat that most presenters tend to do!

I think if anything the programme is more consistent now.

Jackie and Big David (not that the other David could be considered 'small') are both extremely capable. I like them both very much. I have no idea if their off-screen relationship is frosty or not. As we know, many of these stories are apocryphal.

If it's true however they do a good job at papering over the cracks.

Both manage to segue easily from the heavier stories into the lighter ones, and on the rare occassions that banter comes into play they do it with relaxed ease.

If I had to decide between them (and of course I don't), it would be Jackie. She's like part of the family.

I'm sure they will give us something special when they move to pacific quay, but I think we'll have to get used to them standing for now. They don't do changes quickly or often on Reporting Scotland; and i've got used to them being on their feet now.

My opinion of Reporting Scotland is well documented - it's tedious, twee, parochial crap, which appears to have the news values of a regional news programme in one of the quieter areas of England. It also spends too much time boxticking (ensuring every area of the country is covered, resulting in twee guff from the Shetlands getting too much priority) rather than the news agenda.

Having said that, the five minute bulletin just broadcast caught me out. Bizarrely it went too far the other way - a murder, a throat slashing and a murder-related story started things off. It was almost as if they were trying to make up for the rest of the week, and they went a bit too far the other way.

However they were important stories and are far more important than car parking charges in the Borders (a classic second story one night). The problem comes when they try to come up with magazine-style crap. If they're incapable of using 30 minutes properly, maybe they should just get five minutes every night.

Scotty - you have me and others totally intrigued!!!!!!!!! I can probably guess the latter one, but not the Scotch bottle case. That one really has me flummoxed.
