There’s a new overhead camera in the newsroom providing cross-directional images of the newsroom. Similar to sports stadium cameras for Rugby and Football matches.

That seems rather an elaborate creation just for the election, when they already have 'trundle cam' for the newsroom.

The only thing I can even remotely think of is them using it to project AR graphics on the glass walls around. It’s only back and forth and for Sky News we’ve seen it’s a spider cam.

Isn't TrundleCam pretty much hard wired into Gallery E and not available to other studios?

It's used on Outside Source so I guess the answer is no.

Even if it was, the solution wouldnt be to install a new one, they'd just patch it in.

Correct. It's a wall mounted static shot camera.

I just happened to put BBC News on now (normally a CNN and Sky News viewer) and there is a bulletin called 'Afternoon Live', with this typed on the bottom of the screen.
Apart from calling it that, it just seems like how they normally present BBC News, like a normal bulletin, in the same studio, etc.
Can anyone explain if or how it is supposed to be different from what I might see at any other hour on the channel that it should need to be branded as this?

It's not different it's just branded as a separate show, like Newsroom Live, the 9'Clock News etc. The only show that is really different to rest of normal output is Victoria Derbyshire. If you watch Sky News, it's the same as their Afternoon show being called The Sarah Jane Mee show, and Sky News Tonight. They are effectively just the news programmes but branded differently.

Picture I saw of the Sky set up looked like a spidercam in 2D mode - i.e back and forth and up and down, rather than the normal 3D - go wherever - mode.

You’re correct. Saw two wires coming out of each side and thought they were the ones going to each corner (if it were setup like a stadium).

Meanwhile I dont know the brand of cablecam the BBC are using but they appear to be using a SHOTOVER G1 head. https://shotover.com/products/g1
