I thought Breakfast is normally aired as normal then coverage resumes at 9:00

Nope, normally Part one is on until 6am (used to be David D) and a different presenter (used to be Huw E) takes over from 6am with Part two and news bulletins throughout with the breakfast presenter (was Louise M last time from Studio E instead of salford)
I'm surprised to see you say that BBC World is on between 4am and 6am. Usually lots of declarations will come through in this time.
The BBC News Channel was having playout issues just now - the weather was cut off, and the countdown crashed and restarted when it was nearing the end, however the second run appeared to go more smoothly.

They should use incidents like this to consider making a much much longer countdown of 150 seconds, so if they don’t have ads to show, they can just play the longer countdown instead of dragging out the end of a weather playback or play one ad just to get the 87 second countdown. I get that would be problematic tho since the countdown was only recroded for a 90 second countdown, not 150 seconds, but a longer countdown would be able to show more presenters and scenes or even use some of World’s countdown clips.

Well there is a clock-less countdown... which I guess makes it a filler, not a countdown. Realistically that would have been better in this instance.
Anyway, it must have been manually played as I thought the countdown started automatically from 90 seconds at xx:58:30 by the server and was mixed in when required?

I am unsure if this is correct, in the 2010 election im pretty sure Sian Williams presented a form of Breakfast for a few hours and then Dimbleby took over again around 9am.
In the 2015 and then 2017 election, Dimbleby left around 7am and was followed by Huw Edwards for the remaining part of the day.
Breakfast was on in 2010 but from the election studio, and started alot later than normal about 8ish if memory serves me and finished about 9.30 after the region's opted out for 20 mins at 9.
I think this was to give David a break for a while, although due to the complexities of that result his break was alot shorter than intended.

I was quoting BBC One, however it's been updated to show Election 2019
