BBC News Channel basically had a complete crash just now at 7.25pm with the weather bulletin. Weather is being played out with no presenter on shot, and with the generic loop music being played in the background. Am more surprised they're not quitting out of the weather feed to show the countdown.

Strange incident on the BBC News Channel in middle of Beyond 100 Days, Mel Coles name appeared at beginning but no weather presenter, just going through slides with music from countdown.

If it were a case of the presenter being ill, it would make more sense to play some filler and then play back an older pre-recorded clip from earlier in the day for tomorrow's weather, rather than doing what happened. Showing just graphics without an explanation doesn't really help a lot of people, if people wanted that, they would just use their phones
My guess is that the source that displays the video and plays the audio of the presenter (since the weather graphic feed and the presenter feeds are effectively separate) failed in some way, but strange they didn't just try to quit out of the obviously failed play back.
Weather presenter ill at the last minute and they decided to just show the graphics, or somehow both the video and audio of the weather presenter failed?

That's the next round of cuts then.

Next thing is soundless news bulletin broadcasts and you just have to read the subtitles/screens for the gist of the story XD

I suspect the decision was complicated by the fact that Channel and World go their separate ways for weather before coming back again for the BOTH. Very sensible contingency, and worked quite well.
