can't help but feel like the black bar that has the bbc news logo on it is just a waste of space for most of the time. It makes everything above it look odd especially with the Victoria graphics

I wouldn't be surprised to see the clock re join the logo at some point either. it will give them more space on the flipper too

The issue with these VD graphics is the semi-translucent black bar for the BBC News logo which gives this wierd gap in the graphics that you can see through.

Nice refresh overall but why oh why they had to stick with 4:3 I will never know. Tweet graphic earlier looked amazing if anyone got a screenshot.

Overall its an 8/10 from me. It does look refresher and the graphics do show up better on smartphones.

Agree about the comments about 4:3 safe graphics still being used rather than moving to 16:9. Does seem a bit dated.

Would have liked to have seen the opening newsroom and studio camera pans/shots updated. Also feel its still a missed opportunity to refresh the generic titles and music at the same time. I suppose it means we've got another few years of the titles which are too short for the music for OB TOTHs.

I notice the smartphone app, Facebook and the Twitter avatars are still using the old Gill logo.

Why on earth are the VD graphics so far up the screen? I will never understand why they let that happen. Awful.

(I do know that they launched a while ago)

Eh? Surely this is obvious now. They launched like that to fit with the new channel lower thirds.

I just don’t understand why they don’t use the new lower thirds in their entirety with a Victoria LIVE where the NEWS AT NINE bug went.

I think everything is 14:9 safe- presumably to keep templates the same as possible across channel and World, because of the amount of countries that see World (or it’s individual programmes) in 14:9 letterboxed.

will be nice when they refresh the titles (last time was 2014 and that just made them a bit longer).

2013 actually.

Putting the website address (bbc.co.uk/news) next to the BBC NEWS logo would be a nice touch to use the space.

The only thing I don't like so far is the "credit" graphic which appears where the programme bug is (causing it to disappear) - see the "Sky Sports" credit on the cricket top story.

Ah.

Are they planning to refresh the titles?

They should. They looked pretty dated now compared to the titles of Victoria Derbyshire, Outside Source and even Afternoon Live. And they look even more dated this morning with the new graphics.
