Looks like someone's finally resync'd the BBC News/World News box on the World News Today titles as it now fades in on the end slide when the programme name appears, rather than on the studio pan.

Also it's interesting that on Afternoon Live and Newsroom Live, the top line text 'Afternoon' and 'Newsroom' are in Reith Serif but the 'Live' is in Sans, but on World News Today the top line 'World News' is in Sans and the bottom line 'Today' in Serif, so reversed.

I like the look of the new lower thirds for Hardtalk. They look really nice & a lot better than when I watched the interview with Michael Sheen a few weeks ago. Although that interview with him was broadcast on the 20th of June this year hence the older graphics being used.

As others have said, if you're going to use tools such as Skype, get someone to talk to the participant before the interview begins.

This video may be able to help - the creator explains what happens before the Skype contributor goes live:

Curious that they appear to be using a regular Mac desktop with the consumer version of Skype (as seen at 3.50 on that video). There's a Skype TX product that has useful features like, oh, not popping up incoming call notifications on top of current calls...

Is anyone else noticing the absence of the big black bar above the flipper or is it just me?

Im surprised they don’t have the watermark. From what I’ve read the latest versions of consumer Skype don’t have the option to remove it.

Also, I’m surprised the BBC doesn’t have a via Skype strap on screen? I thought that was required for broadcasts.

There was an Ofcom ruling (against Sky, I think) which said it breached the undue prominence rule, so it's verboten in the UK. The T&Cs specify that local broadcast codes outrank Skype's credit requirements.

That’s actually quite funny. She phoned the BBC and her face popped up on screen! 😂

The original policy for headline straps was I think that they should be two-lines, with the second line longer than the first. However for things like "Hong Kong protests" it's not really ideal to split Hong and Kong. Also there are some pictures that will naturally look better with only one line of text. There are also some stories that cannot easily be told in one line of text, so need to be split over two. It's really down to what works best with the pictures and what works best with the text.

That’s wrong should be one like before.

It was requested, the day after launch, that all straps were one line until they could fix the problem that subtitles covered up the top line of text. I think they now move subtitles to the top of the screen. The one line rule was relaxed about a week later. However it would seem the nationals are still going with one liners, yet the channel uses two most of the time. Guidance has been sought - fret not!
