Yawn.

I can't see why any broadcaster would turn it down. It may be an uninteresting story for many, however the reaction it will generate will reach millions.

“News-making interview” is an odd phrase. I’d like to think all interviews have a newsline otherwise what’s the point?

In my opinion "Tabloid news article generating interview" would probably be more accurate. Personally I'm not sure if it warrants being the lead item on a NEWS bulletin, but each to their own.

Most interviews are basically after the news has been made. Rarely does an interview itself actually create news, the obvious example being the Prince Andrew interview. If this is "news-making", then I expect it will have something new and unexpected.

I think that Politics Live is returning four days rather than five if I read the press release correctly?

Is it still BBC2 only? Baffles me in these days of cost cutting they don't simulcast it on the News Channel, especially as they always show PMQs anyway. That would leave them requiring one presenter rather than two in the mornings.

Also is Newsnight staying in E and therefore at 10.45pm?

No clue. Considering Studio B (formerly Newsnight, Marr, Live, Global etc) has apparently been rid of, I can't see it finding anywhere else in New Broadcasting House?

That’s just not true. Every interview you do in news you’re looking for a line, something new, something to push the story on, be it an interview from OFQUAL about exams, a short clip from the Shadow Chancellor or a sit-down with the Prime Minister.

Indeed Maguire seems more the sort of story something like GMB would lead with rather than the News At 10. Is it really the biggest story in the world? Can't say it particularly added any new information.

Also while I'm sure BBC made sure it was all above board I'm not sure necessarily how ethical it feels to basically have a 6-minute segment/platform on News At 10 for Maguire to give his side with little real response/explanation of the opposing case bar a pithy blink-and-you'll-miss-it 'this is only Maguire's explanation of the events' statement. Especially given Maguire has been guilty in a case regarding this and is due to have an appeal regarding the case.
And also after the way Roan has covered some sports stories in recent years I can't say I particularly rate his reporting.

There was also that ‘exclusive interview’ with the Asian man who had an altercation with police last week as well, which had the feel of an interview you’d usually see watermarked with a tabloid newspaper’s logo across it.

Is it still BBC2 only? Baffles me in these days of cost cutting they don't simulcast it on the News Channel, especially as they always show PMQs anyway. That would leave them requiring one presenter rather than two in the mornings.

That then brings in question as to why you both need BBC Two or BBC NC at all. They may as well shut BBC NC, show BBC WN (sans adverts) in the UK and just have BBC Two broadcasting from midday during the week.

Exactly how I’d have it.

I don't understand why when Victoria Derbyshire was a going concern, there were endless posts about why it shouldn't be on the news channel because it wasn't a "proper" news programme and specialised in social affairs (even though it regularly covered breaking news), in a prime slot, and yet at the same time, suggesting Politics Live, which actually does only cover a single subject and doesn't cover breaking news in any specific way, should be on the news channel in a prime slot. There's certainly more to it than PMQs.
