It's actually not easy to make a recording off the telly for 'keeps' these days thanks to HDCP etc. Also gone are the days of lending someone a tape of a recording you've made. A friend of mine has the same model Freesat PVR as me, I ftp'd him the file of a show I'd recorded, and he downloaded it to his. It wouldn't play though. Spoil sports

Back in the day, I used to be able to pick up BBC World (as was) using my old analogue Sky STB/dish which was pointing at 19.2E. I've long since removed the STB and the channel will be digital and probably scrambled by now.

It's available on several satellites visible from the UK, including at 19.2E. It's always been Free-to-air, news channels tend to be.

That's true. My Humax Freeview HD PVR will export recordings onto USB stick, but not those in HD due to copy protection. There is a way round it involving FTP and a little bit of software called Foxy that removes the encrypted flag. Not something I could imagine the average reporter or presenter doing.

Then of course they'd have to put it into a computer and edit out the relevant bits. Why go to all that hassle when it's all set up and available at work?

What's up with the graphics on the News channel? Everything seems to be juddering/strobing for some reason.

No, they've been having problems with the graphics juddering when wiping on and off screen all day but not quite as bad as this.

It’ll be a different viz engine on World.

Juddering graphics on the news channel has been occurring on and off for a couple weeks now, pretty frustrating.

The iPlayer catch up shows what was happening.

Right, I forgot that. Couldn’t they route the World News viz engine to News Channel temporarily during simulcasts?

Sorry, I can’t view as I’m not in the UK. I do wish the BBC would implement the TVGo style software that’s used in the US (and Canada I believe) allowing us to login with verified cable/satellite credentials to view iPlayer shows that were on World News. They already provide a separate TVGo feed which is only available on TV providers apps although that is just a feed and the BBC doesn’t have to do the grunt work of setting up an app and dealing with authentication issues for dozens of providers.

Seems Ben Bland was the latest presenter to experience wandering camera syndrome!
