This was mooted at the time of the Reith changes, wasn't it? Fine and works well for OBs, unnecessary for a studio broadcast. It's their flagship programme!

The piazza view will make little sense to viewers who don't realise that's where the news studios are located. The newsroom shots make more sense as that's where the news is coming from.

Very odd decision.

What nonsense. Broadcasting House is a widely-recognised building. It’s been home to the BBC since 1932. People know that the BBC left Television Centre. It makes perfect sense. I’m pretty sure the viewers know that the newsroom is inside Broadcasting House and not a series of portakabins in Shepherd’s Bush.

Look at it from another perspective. In the 1990s, when News at Ten moved to Gray’s Inn Road, do you think viewers thought it strange that the the building was featured in the titles?

IIRC, when the move to Broadcasting House was first mooted, there was a suggestion that the Ten would begin with an exterior shot and show the art installation (a beacon) on the roof lit up. I think it’s called ‘Breathing’ and it’s pulses in time to the pips.

I have no issue with showing an outside shot, but anyone know why they’ve decided on shorter titles? What does that signify?

If anything I’d expect the flagship bulletin to have longer titles not shorter?

In fact in the world of news that is always the case.

I actually don't think Broadcasting House is as widely recognised as some seem to think. But that's surely a reason to include it on screen more.

Surely if anything needed shortening in the opening titles, it's how long the headlines go on for, not the animated graphics themselves? Some days it seems like the anchors give every single detail about the stories before the opening titles.

The BBC's decision making grows worse by the day.

What’s the big deal? They’ve gone from one clumsily-edited title sequence to another. This current style has really had its day.

Mediaboy has said it's been done to inject pace, but as I've replied on Twitter, I don't think it's the titles that need shortening but the rambling headlines.

I just don't understand how people at the BBC can't see that it's the long waffly headlines that need cutting down, not the title sequences per se. The same approach has been applied to Breakfast where we have stings now, not a title sequence.

It’s been on 12 years now but it’s unlikely the bbc will be doing any large scale revamp Sad

That actually looks quite polished and professional (your edit that is, not the second one).

Is that shot of the exterior of BH live? Shouldn't the memorial to journalists who died on duty be shooting a column of light into the air at that time?

If they could frame the shot to show that it might be a better sequence.
