It might save cash, but what would it cost in terms of prestiege, when literally every channel, even the cheapest of cheap and cheerful is available 24 hours a day? Nobody wants to go off air anymore, lest they lose the few viewers who are actually watching them, and they switch over to some other channel and never come back.

Surely the option to remove all the news simulcast on Bbc2 and just ‘open’ the channel later would save cash? Similar the BBC Scotland should have done the same rather than simulcast bbc2 most of the day!
