They need some new shots in the countdowns! It’s sad they haven’t updated at all since September 2018 when they had started to update every few months since 2013.

I noticed Steph McGovern was still making an appearance in the 'non-countdown countdown' filler ahead of a simulcast weekend evening bulletin very recently.

Kamal Ahmad is also still appearing even after moving to an editorial role behind the scenes.

That article only says that more cuts will be announced next week, and doesn't specify any particular cuts.

Take another look.

It says...
Quote:
It is understood the efficiencies being planned include Newsnight being asked to make fewer films
, so a move to cut another part of BBC News that is known for its own reporting, in favour of output sharing.

It also says
Quote:
BBC Radio will be expected to share resources and material across its bulletins on different stations. At present, they have bespoke news roundups.

And in a move that will excite the regulars in the Rota thread :
Quote:
More presenters will also be asked to work across programmes and channels

It already feels like Newsnight makes significantly fewer films than it did. It’s going to become a cheap debate show if they’re not careful.

Newsnight was always more of an interview & debate programme in its early days, so that's hardly anything to write home about. There's already a lot of sharing going on on Radio News, so there isn't really a lot of room for more sharing anyway, unless you somehow have Radio 4 and 5 Live share news bulletins, and I really don't see the Radio 4 audience appreciating that at all, and the few news bulletins Radio 3 has are basically copy only and can be read by anybody.

Sorry, but they're not specific plans. They're pie in the sky ideas that feel like they will fall apart upon first contact with reality.

If anything gets cut to Newsnight, it'll probably be the airtime, which I suspect will be 30 mins to match Friday.

Brexitcast is being shown now instead of Click.

Was the 00:30 repeat of Brexitcast pulled? That might explain it. Click gets repeat slots over the weekend whereas Brexitcast doesn't.

And if that's the case, it'll probably be simulcast on the News Channel as well.

Surely the option to remove all the news simulcast on Bbc2 and just ‘open’ the channel later would save cash? Similar the BBC Scotland should have done the same rather than simulcast bbc2 most of the day!
