so a network announcer introduced the programme over a local ident, then a local voice introuduced HIGABMNFY over a network ident...

Just checked the beginning of West Mids, & apart from a brief flash of the 'Red Wall Of Death' ident that Network was using, before swopping to local Bikes, opt out 99% ok at Brum.

(Isn't there normally a computer screen in the regions, that lists all the junctions on Network, that the local staff can refer to? I'm assuming there is a miniscule delay between the button press & the technology actually kicking in, which is why you get a flash of Network before swopping to Regional?)

Yes, Presfax. The regions also ought to be able to listen in on network talkback. Slow trigger finger on the director's part?

(Room 101 Extra Storage has been dropped; a change to the schedule above.)

If it was a network vo into the Mayoral debate, who did everyone else in England? Or was it just prerecorded (and they hadn't bothered to record the HIGNIFY junction)

Can't answer your first question (because I was only watching London at the time), but I suspect that it was prerecorded.

That's naughty. West Midlands couldve done that instead of going with Room 101! Someone at the Mailbox needing to catch the last bus home?

Could be automated from the Pres gallery in fairness, doesn't need a human intervention, just leaves the opting messy!

Are you sure they have buses, near the Mailbox, on a Sunday???

I was being tongue in cheek, but they are a short walk from Broad Street & Hill Street/New St station anyway!

The 'flash' wouldn't be caused by a technical delay, it's reaction time of the person pushing the button

In other words, a clued up tech op, who knew the ending exactly, could theorectically opt out 'slightly early', instead of seeing a flash of Network?

They could do a soft opt, run NET1 through the Vision Mixer than do a cut to the ident and local programme and it'd look a lot cleaner, instead of crashing (Pebble Mill style) into programmes, strikes me as a "Oh damn, we're meant to be opted" moment!

I can't remember the reason, but I'm sure they can't do that any more.... although maybe now everything's digital maybe they can again?

I think they can, once each region is fully DSO'd.

I've seen a dissolve to and from network (on BBC Cambs about a year ago), and a split audio and video cut on BBC South last week.

AIUI The system is running the DTT/DSAT opts off of GPIs from the 'analogue' on air mixer tallies is disposed of, and 'digital' network simply becomes a mixer primary source, although I don't know what happens to network in the case of local equipment failure (as happened yesterday at Southampton)
