According to this Sunday Express article, BBC regional television news may be for the chop in the forseeable future, as a possible money-saving exercise, in the wake of the less-than-the-BBC-had-hoped-for Licence Fee. Confused

Any thoughts or comments, anyone?

It's the Sunday Express. Therefore it's not true.

Or I hope not.

The beeb wouldn't be that stupid ... regional news is (and always has been) a big part of the news in general and tons of stuff is being moved to regional news centres (i.e. Biiirming'am is getting quite a lot). I know they need to make a few cuts but when they do it will brobably be small things. Come on, can you imagine having to turn to ITV for regional news? Very Happy

It's also part of the their legal requirements to provide regional programming.

Not read the story, but presumably this is one of those Sunday Express stories that runs to:

"the Sunday Express understands that the BBC is to axe local news....

.... a source-we-made up said 'this could be very serious. it might be the end of regional news'

blah blah blah blah blah bit of filler here and a picture of Natasha Kaplinsky

.... last night, the BBC said 'no, this is a load of crap, you're talking rubbish'

.... Turn to page 359 for our editorial: "Why the BBC should be taken apart and sold now"

.... In other news:

Am I right?

Oh, I'm sure it's true.

The BBC have commissioned the replacement programme to fit in the 18:30 to 19:00 slot.

It's called "Conspiracy Theories" and the first one's about Prince Philip murdering Princess Diana.

(Damn you cat! Beat me to it!)

Is it not possibly about them not pushing forward with Local TV , that they were piloting in the Midlands?

In the North West, it would involve Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cumbria, IoM and Cheshire each getting their own news programmes as well as the 1830 bulletin as opposed to Gordon and NWT being shown the door.

After building up regional telly and spending millions on it over te past few years there's no chance.

I would sooner tie myself to an anvil and jump from a second-floor window into a swimming pool filled with Tippex.

No, it spoils the taste of said chips.
