I'd love to know who first used the term.

Quote:
It was derived by analogy from Grexit, referring to a hypothetical withdrawal of Greece from the eurozone (and possibly also the EU). The term Brexit may have first been used in reference to a possible UK withdrawal from the EU by Peter Wilding, in a Euractiv blog post on 15 May 2012 (given as the first attestation in the Oxford English Dictionary).

Quote:
The term 'Grexit' was coined by the Citigroup economist Ebrahim Rahbari and was introduced by Rahbari and Citigroup's Global Chief Economist Willem H. Buiter on 6 February 2012.

Airing your dirty HR linen in public is pretty standard for on screen BBC employees

Speaking of which... odd that Carrie Gracie’s name hasn’t been mentioned for a potential successor.

Why would she?

Some new entrants in the race:

Christian Fraser, Eddie Mair, Tom Bradby.

I've added them into my imaginary race, in case you're wondering where they came from.

I'd still hope for Zeinab Badawi though. Ticking all the boxes. And the suggestion of Martine Croxall is actually a very good one indeed! La Croxall would actually be an excellent and popular choice.

Moira has already turned it down, apparently.

I come slightly late to this discussion, so might be at risk of going over old ground but to add my view.

I do understand why Emma Vardy would be considered as a candidate and how this would take the programme in a different direction. My one concern about her appointment would be is that she does have a tendency to be a bit sensationalist and try to get a headline when interviewing I worry she would try and take over a bit excessively and detract from the point of the show.

Of other candidates, I do think Nick Robinson is due a significant role on political programming, I had thought the Sunday Politics would have suited him but he also covered one of the Question Time Specials In the run up to the last election and would probably adapt well to the format.

Adrian Chiles is a good suggestion too, I’ve always been impressed with how he has handled discussion programmes on BBC Radio 5 Live and think he’d really excel in the role. He’s also been presenting Questiom time Extra Time as well, so some of the audience will be used to him.

Other candidates I’d consider would be Emily, Mishal (who I actually think did a very good job on election night and in moderating the political debate) Jo Coburn and Stephen Sackur. I don’t think Fiona Bruce has been mentioned yet but Think she could potentially be good too.

I think Eddie Mair would be better suited to This Week when that comes round, where has time for more probing discussion and a slightly satirical side to things.

Eddie Mair is out of the running as he will be leaving the BBC in August after 31 years.

PM when he is on, is a quality listen. Sorry to see him go..
.. That said, now I have a pocket DAB radio and can pick up LBC maybe I won't miss his next day gig after all.

As that is the only logical place he can go on the radio.

I wonder where if Emma Barnet might be his replacement or Carolyn Quinn's replacement on the Westminster Hour if she gets the main gig.

The spinning chairs was *the* reason to watch Channel 4 News in 2001!
