I think some on here are way over thinking the embargo thing. It had been pure speculation for a number of weeks that they had or were to get engaged due to a number things happening in Meghan's life over the past month. It's a simple as that, just joining up the dots and speculating what it could all add up to.

Apparently Nick Ferrari on LBC had a guest on at 9.55 on Monday explaining why the announcement couldn't and wouldn't happen this week. Chris Moyles played a clip out yesterday.

If the news had been released under embargo I can't imagine they would have run that item and embarrassed the guest rather than delaying their contribution to react after the announcement.

Exactly. I would safely say there was no embargo. The news dropped at 10.00am sharp and that was that. You don't need days of planning for what followed that day such as the photo call and the interview.

There was certainly no embargo on IRN. The news was sent down on their NET Newsroom system as a Flash/Snap.

It wasn't announced at dead on 10am either. First tweets seem to have been sent at 10.02.. If they was an embargo then they would have been tweets at dead on 10am.

No embargo - just a PA snap at 10.01 or 10.02.

I guess when I mentioned embargo it wasn’t the right word. Surely the BBC knew but held back but what about the other organizations? As you said we all knew this was coming so it was not an if but when situation. So it sounds like the news dropped via the PA at 10 but the specific date and time weren’t known (would the BBC as they had the interview) as was the case in the unfortunate LBC interview.

Also would the interview be sitting on the BBC’s servers in a restricted manner or would it be kept off line?

I got the impression the interview took place during the afternoon after the announcement?

How many would be involved in Mishal's interview (or did the palace provide a crew for sedredy)? Did the BBC or the couple choose Mishal? And how did the BBC keep this secret (the complete interview and the engagement)'from within the organization?

Apparently it was first and last story on ABC World News (per a comment in the TVNewsTalk chat) and the CBS Evening News. On NBC Nightly News it was the second story four minutes in.

I imagine when the wedding occurs it will be broadcast on the major networks.

Congratulations to the couple. Wish them the best.

It's widely reported that Mishal was chosen by both Harry and Meghan to conduct the interview and to rave reviews.

It was. They couldn't pre record it before the announcement in case something delayed the announcement for a few days.

Ok. I was under the impression that it was recorded earlier. From the bits I’ve see on US tv and the World News replay (I was in and out) it seemed like it could be one of those things that you could interview within a week. I would thought setting aside time for an interview would be difficult - with so much to do.

Definitely an on-the-day interview. Those are the kind of interviews that you don't record in advance of a such a sensitive announcement (These days at least).

The Palace call you just after 10am and say to send X to do pooled interview, I doubt you'd quibble with them much. Get your equipment down and get set up ASAP.

Wedding confirmed for 19th May. I wonder if ITV will do full coverage or leave it to the BBC (who will cover it even if no cameras in St George's chapel)
