Press TV, the Iranian state broadcaster's English-language outlet, has been forced off the air in the UK after Ofcom revoked its licence for breaching the broadcasting code.

The controversial broadcaster had been threatened with being banned from broadcasting in the UK last year, after the channel aired an interview with Maziar Bahari, an imprisoned Newsweek journalist, that had been conducted under duress.

You know what, it is a terrible name for a news channel. ( Press , as in pressure .) But since the channel is broadcasting from the country where... Duh, never mind. Just saying. (BTW, I don't hate Muslims, but I hate extremists.)

The complication that seems to have done for them is that the license was held by the London based production company and not the channel itself which is based in Iran. Therefore the London company didn't have any control over the output (as a licensee should) or any ability to pay the fine.

The other issue they had is, as with all international channels, they needed to fulfil the rules of Ofcom and all the other countries they broadcast in. What they can get away with in one country they might not be able to here.

Thanks for this useful insight.

So what's the best non-Fox comedy news channel now? Russia Today?

Well duh, I want to criticise a country in Islamic theocracy whose government is threatening USA with its nuclear skills, but I don't want to offend innocent Muslims with my poor English writing skills.
