There was a pretty complicated title sequence at 6, which seemed to go off without a hitch. Matt Frei did the initial headlines, then paused; the UK opted out for headlines from George Alagiah (while Matt continued on World); then the regions opted, and Joanna Gosling did further (sports?) headlines for News Channel. World played their special titles, in the UK we had the Six titles, and it all came back together to time.

Yet they provide HD coverage, without HD...

I can't capture HD through a capture card, so these all come from a camera - hence they're all a bit skewiff and really don't put across how excellent the picture quality was, but I thought they might be of interest anyway...

Sky's coverage looked very good. The only upscaled parts were the shots of Robert Nesbitt, everything else (including Jeremy and Adam) was very good quality HD.

BBC HD, in comparison, was quite poor and clearly hastily cobbled together when a HD feed was made available. Some of the upscaled SD was terrible quality, not all of it was even 16:9.

CNN now reporting senators Edward Kennendy and Robert Byrd both collapsed during this lunch they all are having. Surprised Sad

Are Wolf and Anderson actually seated outside, or are they in a glass house? If they are the former they deserve an award for the hardiest anchors in Washington, while the other anchors are well wrapped up these two seem very comfortable in their suits.

Logo looks bad with the rounded edges at the end on the HD logo, they should get rid of those.

Nice anyway. Still lacks something though!

Some nice graphics on Channel 4 News's coverage tonight - nothing too flash, but they made it feel a bit more special, and certainly reminded me how much I hate the hideous white block the BBC use.

I have to say how amazing Sky News has been today. They've totally outdone themselve - and the HD is absolutely first class. The web stream is brilliant!

Reflections on the BBC Coverage ....

Should seriously evaluate it's use of commentators, The coverage was excellent for it's breadth and content but no commentary was necessary at the forty minute Inauguration ceremony. The announcements provided by Feinstein, with captions, would have been sufficient as introductions to the main dramatis personae.

HD coverage should not have been so publicised as it seems clear that the feed wasn't up to the job.

The unfortunate Sopel camera (and indeed Sopel himself) should have been ditched as soon as the fault was realised. Myrie was in a similar position and could have been used throughout instead.

I'll give it a B- all around.

Are the BBC getting a hooky feed of this parade? Flicking between them, Sky and heck even Fox News the quality looks better on the others - it's not even in widescreen! Poor show.

For the first time in a long time I've switched to Sky who also don't feel like they have to speak over the pictures all the time.

Really disappointed with the BBC's coverage today. Poor quality cameras and feeds, too many commentators and reporters (as with the election night programme) with each of them speaking over each other and, indeed, over the ceremony itself. It seems as though the BBC is being far too ambitious in its coverage of these big occasions of late and it nearly always has a negative impact upon the coverage. On election night, ITN had a much tighter operation and was my preference. For the inauguration, both Sky News and Fox News have been excellent and I've been flicking between the two all afternoon and evening. In terms of bulletins, Channel 4 News was by far the best.

I think the pool feed going into the Washington bureau is 4:3 - the EBU feed arriving in London is definitely 16:9.
