Every Inauguration has been covered LIVE by the BBC on television since the satellite age began.

I've been watching BBC NC, but I'm becoming rather irritated by Jon Sopel's continuous 'um...arrr...umm...arr' between almost every word sometimes.

I appreciate that it's cold in Washington DC and he might also have problems with his talkback, but this has lasted for the hour I've watched.

I might swap to Sky News if he doesn't improve shortly.

Huw is taking over at 4.

I've already swapped to Sky. Jon Sopel seems to be ad-libbing badly.

The online HD stream from Sky is very good indeed.

He's a heck of of a long way from the action and the picture quality is awful.

Huw Edwards is nearer

EDIT, shame we can see a scrappy bit of roof when there's a 2-shot though

I'm enjoying the Sky News coverage, as opposed to BBC News', at the moment. Good on them for having an HD stream online for people not near a TV.

BBC HD is quite shocking to be honest. Whilst i appreciate they can't run the whole thing in HD - there is way too much content that is not HD.

Is the coverage the same on BBC/Sky HD as it is on the SD versions?

Am sticking with the BBC for now, the Huw Edwards/Matt Frei combination is good. Their 'boxes' look odd though - tiny little pictures and lots of graphic

BBC HD is 'clean' - there are no DOGs of any kind, nor the LIVE tag. The only graphics are the occasional name straps.

Sky HD has 'minimal' versions of their graphics (as seen on the caps posted above).

Strangely, Jon wrapped up on the News Channel at 15:59:00, then did another minute of filling on World before the titles began.

His camera is horrible, though - it looks like it's an analogue video line too close to a power cable.

The HD channel is mostly taking the same coverage, but dipping into the pool feed a little bit more, to cover up the poor quality video. The commentary from Huw is the same.

From a presentation rather than content point of view I wonder why the BBC are using crap-looking split screens when they have ones that fit and line up with things nicely? The ones they're using look like they've just been plonked anywhere.

Also it has to be said that BBC Arabic has some very nice presentation. The graphic behind the split screens on there was rather akin to ITV's election night coverage. Don't know is Persian have anything special though - they didn't whilst I was watching.
