I think all_night was meaning that GMB were first (amongst UK outlets?) to report that The Associated Press had called the result, rather than called it themselves.

My point is that other news organisations may have been relying on their own numbers and newsgathering before calling the final result.

I was surprised that the BBC would report CNN and Fox News in their chyrons that Trump was the President Elect.

Side Note: How do these anchors go for so long? I know I mentioned this before and people said they've done it and doctors work it but still.

Katty Kay is back on Morning Joe this morning. She probably got no rest from this time yesterday. She manages to look well rested.

Morning Joe is coming from the "historic" Studio 8H, home of SNL. They have their desk facing where the orchestra would be sitting against the backwall of the stage and their backs against the audience. In past cycles they faced the audience but it looks much better from a TV perspective this way.

Was there any need to send Clive Myrie to the US?

It did seem laughable at Sky News doing their own call on the states, which came just after NBC or one of the other networks called it.

I did enjoy Sky's coverage and watched it the most having switched between ITV and BBC. Good Morning Britain were on the ball, first to say Trump had won, via PA and Clinton had conceded.

Sky News' calls came from multiple sources, including our correspondents on the ground. Not just networks.

As for GMB calling Trump's win, the Press Association likely took that from America's The Associated Press - as most, if not all of the other calls they made. They likely only called that because an American wire agency did. Laughable, or just relying on what naturally better-resourced American outlets are saying?

AP was what I meant re GMB. As for Sky News, it just seemed they were copying the main US outlets and passing off as 'Sky News can project'. I'd say most popped up their data machine from either NBC/CNN/ABC or whoever and then Sky News doing the same, just felt like a copy and paste job. Fox News can confirm the Pope has died Very Happy

I second that! In a former life I worked as a broadcaster. Plenty of water and bananas help get you through. The worst mistake is drinking too much coffee. Caffeine just makes you jittery and unwell. Above all else, it's the adrenaline. I worked on two separate elections and can remember struggling to sleep for about 24 hours afterwards, even though I was exhausted!

That therefore does sound like one of those needless trips abroad that the BBC were allegedly supposed to be reducing.

I bet the complete lack of Breakfast this morning and the fact the U.S. Election wasn't just 90% of the news, but100% of the news, ignoring the likes of the weather and the fatal tram crash will make Newswatch this week, assuming Newswatch itself isn't dropped as well of course!
