whats happening tonight on here?

If there isn't already a plan I'd suggest closing this thread, sending the political chit chat itself off to metro and then having a thread for the three main networks pres and another for international coverage.

I just fear that this thread would get a bit overloaded if left on its own.

Fox News seems to be having enormous coverage as usual.

They seem to be a bit arrogant, calling them selves America's Election HQ all the time.

I saw a report on Brit Hume's show last night that the other networks, CBS, NBC and ABC have all spent massive amounts on money covering Obama and much less for McCain.

Of course Fox gave their expenses which was much "Fair and Balanced" than the others.

Was Fox News coverage so far balanced? I don't think so.

CNN's 'Magic Board' in use tonight by John King looks pretty brilliant:

Does anyone know roughly what time we'll know the final result over here? Is it worth staying up until 6 o'clock in the morning?

Go to bed early and get up at 5?

you go could even get up at 6am! that woudl still only be midnight in new york!

It would be 1.00am in New York, if it's 6.00am in London, don't forget when it's 6.00am here, it's only 10.00pm in Los Angeles, but I guess at about Breakfast time (UK) most of the results should be coming in.

The polls that close at 1am such as Florida and especially Pennsylvania will be vital, if McCain doesn't win those he's pretty much done for. Obviously it'll take a while for the votes to be counted up, and how long it takes for the networks to call them depends on how close the votes are, but it's thought that if things go well for Obama it could be all wrapped up even before the polls close on the West coast at 4am our time. If it's a landslide he might even be declared president by the networks at 2am our time, which is when the states that would possibly take him past the 270 mark close.

If you fancy chatting about the US election then I've taken the liberty of registering a chatroom on IRC. It's part of Metropol's election coverage and if you want to join...

Best to use mIRC and you'll find Darkfire in the options and simply connect to that with the username of your choice. Since we last used it you have to do an extra step to register your nickname by going to [url]http://verify.darkfire.net/[url].

Then within mIRC or your chosen IRC client type /msg NickServ register "password" "security key from darkfire website"

And you're sorted then simply type /join #metropol and you'll be away and we can chat away about rubbish forever more.

The CNN Magic Wall is from Perceptive Pixel and is proprietry software AFAIK.

MSNBC use Microsoft Surface for their board, not sure which software solution Sky have for their board.

As well as the technical cost of the operation, licence fee payers will be footing the bill for travel costs, accommodation and expenses which is certain to run into hundreds of thousands.

because companies who send people abroad to do their jobs usually make them pay for their own flights of course...

The BBC seems to have an endless amount of US reporters and correspondents, new ones seem to pop up in the Washington studio every day.

Well they do have quite a few, but only because the BBC have a lot of outlets which the reporters have to cater for.

For those interested in what's happening over here...RTÉ is running a Prime Time Special (although differing sources differ on how long it will be) - according to RTÉ.ie this is running from midnight to 3am, following which RTÉ will relay CBS Television until 6am.

TV3's published schedules say they are doing nothing, however, there has been apparently a late schedule change and they will relay CNN from midnight to 7am - not sure whether this will be the domestic or International version.

TG4 are doing nothing.
