What time are the US networks starting their coverage?

Is Katie Couric anchoring CBS' coverage?

Yes she is.

Presumably ITN are anchoring from London then - rather than Washingtong (BBC) or Florida (Sky)?

Sky's election night coverage itself will be based in New York (like the US networks), although they'll be going back to Florida during the night to get the views of guests there at an election night party.

It's not immediately clear to me - who is that presenter in the above ITN studio caps? Is it Alastair Stewart?

Spot on, it's Alistair Stewart, who will be the London based host for the programme, Julie Etchingham will be in New York

Mark Austin was supposed to be co-'anchoring' from Washington but his name has disappeared from listings. The ITN programme will also have link-ups with Bill Neely, James Mates, and John Irvine (in Washington). Wonder where Mark has gone though if indeed he's not presenting from Washington; will he be in the studio or something? Highly doubt it though.

The Politics Show is coming from Washington. Currently showing some appallingly CSO'd interviews with British politicians on their take on the US Elections.

I think Mark is anchoring the Evening News and News at Ten from Washington, but not sure if he was ever intended to be part of the overnight coverage.

Can anyone provide a rundown of what the US networks are doing - can't seem to find a decent comparison anywhere. Are they all dedicating the whole of primetime and beyond to it, or is one of them opting to offer regular programming as an alternative instead?

The "Big 4" all have election coverage from 7pm - 2am. Most people have cable so it's not like there isn't an alternative. Although I don't think there will be that many people looking for one.

That makes more sense but IIRC Trevor is supposed to be presenting News at Ten from Washington, rather than Mark (though I'm sure he'll pop up on the later bulletin in some form).

Cheers. Do the polls close early evening then, and are they all completely national programmes, or do they have opt outs to the local affiliates?

The polls close on a state-by-state basis. In fact, some larger states are split between time zones, so polls in one part of the state close before they do in another.

The coverage is mostly national, but there are also numerous local updates.

Love the election style on Sky News, using a different bed on the countdown and during the headlines. The voice over- similar to the one on Whitehouse unplugged- names all of the presenters in the US even if they aren't presenting!

A rather messy double-header on BBC World News at the moment. Jane Hill in Washington and Peter Dobbie in London. Jane has used the generic BBC News terminology in her intro, so clearly there is another anchor back at N24 London simulcasting whilst Dobbie does the same at World.

N24's intro is longer than World's, so Peter came back up after the opening theme sequence to pointlessly say "and now over to Jane Hill in Washington", at which point we cut to Washington and manage to intrude minute-ly into the closing thunderclaps of N24's intro, before Jane started the bulletin.

Messy.......................

But good to see Jane Hill here on World though, and even better is the fact that she's in DC.

Yeah I really liked that, the music sounded great. Lovely titles too and all round impressive coverage from Sky,with the exception of some dodgey stuff from the 'White House' in Miami.
