It would either be Moira, Jennie or Chris Lowe who would present on a Saturday. They would do the 7.25, 1pm, early evening and BBC Two bulletin. A senior presenter would do the late bulletin.

According to Genome, he presented the Six on a number of occasions in late 1988 and early 1989 - and on a number of occasions early in the virtual era, too.
He actually presented the Six more times than Michael Buerk - who almost certainly presented the bulletin on a single-digit number of occasions. Genome has him down as doing so four times, all in 1996 (and, indeed, it was rare enough to see him presenting on the pale blue variant of the virtual set).
However, he also presented on 30 December 1987 alongside Nicholas Witchell. Curiously enough, the listings for that day have Philip Hayton and Debbie Thrower down as presenting both the Six and the Nine...
(The clip does feature a certain bearded Australian, but that's irrelevant.)
Quite a rare clip
Of Mike Smartt- I think I might have seen a clip of him on 6 o’clock news too

Thread here suggests there was a brief period in 87 where it was just Buerk and Witchell https://tvforum.uk/forums/post218644#post-218644
Both the above clip and the occasion of Moira presenting with Ed Stourton are around the Christmas/New Year period, so guessing it was to do with shifts not being back to normal after holidays

Does anyone know if a female newsreader ever presented from the dark blue and bronze virtual set (excluding the sports presenter)? Because I certainly can't remember there being one over the six year period. The only ones I can recall presenting from that set were Micheal Buerk, Peter Sissons, Martyn Lewis, Nicholas Witchell, John Humphries, Philip Hayton, Edward Stourton, Justin Webb.

That's interesting - Genome suggests that Nicholas presented the One on only three occasions in the 1986-93 era, and didn't present the Nine alongside Buerky at any point (he did present it on a number of occasions in the fish fingers era, but usually alongside Philip or Andrew).
Not that schedules never change, of course.
I'm sure Steve W can clear this one up.

Does anyone remember the odd situation that occurred for two weeks in the late eighties when the BBC News line up was as follows:-
One O'Clock News - Nicholas Witchell
Six O'Clock News - Nicholas Witchell and Michael Buerk (Nick led it.)
Nine O'Clock News - Michael Buerk and Nicholas Witchell (Mike led it).
These two guys handled the entire BBC1 news output between them for two working weeks. Moira only did the weekends. It seemed that everyone else in the BBC News Team (Julia, Sue, Philip, Andrew, Jill, Jeremy, Debbie, Frances, John and Martyn at the time) were all away on hols at the same time. It was a Witchell-Buerk Fest for two whole weeks.

I recall it, didn’t he also do London Plus ( or whatever it was called back then ?)
One thing that I can’t find in YouTube was Jeremy Paxman presenting the Six. Don’t think it was for very long and I don’t remember it happening.

Yes, I think he referred to it as “Sod off Kent” given the London-centric nature of the then BBC SE region.

I found a clip on YouTube a few weeks ago of Jeremy doing the Six but for the life of me can't relocate it anywhere. According to Wikipedia it wasn't for very long, between 1984-1985.

That set was used for the weekend late bulletin, (eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-rF2XG199Q)
According to Genome, Moira presented the Saturday late on 20 March 1999, which would be towards the end of the blue virtual set.

Not an intro, but a clip of Jeremy's rare stint on the Six O'Clock News can be seen here:
