That's true, with CCM there is less need for such an arrangement.

In his case, it was possible to get Wales Today to air routing through Belfast. Who was playing out the reports?

Also, if the Wales Today studio was completely out of service, could it be presented from elsewhere in the UK? Obviously if the power goes down at 6:15 the answer is no, but if they had more time (and an available presenter) could they have used a spare studio somewhere?

For medium and long term no, but for the initial few minutes after the failure, there needs (ideally), to be something. Was there any black/digicrap at all from the moment of power failure (during the 6pm news?) or just a splat (or nothing noticeable?)

The report on the BBC website says the power was only down for an hour or so although it will take some time to get everything back online and usable after it comes back.

Or possibly they were able to set something up using an OB vehicle in time for the late bulletin.

The nearest we've had to that was a serious long term power problem in Plymouth a few years ago, the following day there was a combined Points West and Spotlight programme (with one presenter from each) presented from Bristol

After that joint programme, didn't Spotlight come from Bristol's DTL studio and pres gallery once or twice?

Would the substitute for Reporting Scotland be the NC, or Look North (Newcastle)?

I think it's been comprehensively established that the nations are the substitutes for each other.

I was assuming that a 3-way substitution/partnership wasn't possible (I have zero technical knowledge), so if Wales & NI are buddied-up then Scotland wouldn't be able to buddy-up with either/both of those. Embarassed

I assume that if NI falls over, they'd favour defaulting to Scotland rather than Wales?

Yep there was quick couple of flashes of black, ironically during the report about last week's UK power cut and the National Grid submitting it's report! This was before the quarter past opt out which here in Wales we had the Sportsday headlines.

Sounds by your description some form of by-pass routing automatically cut in
