I may be reading too much into this btw, and you can cast it up in a few days if the Pope recovers, but it almost sounds like there's been an otr briefing that he's gone. Things like "The situation looks very bad" can often be a hint. On the night of Princess Diana's death BBC World had an interviewee saying something along the lines of "I'm worried", when he already knew he was dead but was under an embargo.
