One thing that has irritated me about the coverage is that we kept being told that "special services" are being held around the world to pray for the Pope, and that there's a "candlelit vigil" at St Peter's in Rome.
Sure, those people are doubtless remembering the Pope in their prayers, but not even the correspondents in Rome have grasped that today is Candlemas, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple, which is why people are in church today holding candles.

is it? Hitler was indirectly responisble for the deaths of millions (as he got others to do it for him) while the Pope, by the condom thingy, has sentenced millions to death.
Hitler was responsible for genocide. The Pope is responsible for suggesting how those who choose to be members of one religion may choose to interpret that religion's Holy Book. I see quite a difference.

I am not a fan this pope, but your comparison is absurd.

I don't remember "Though shalt not shag with a condom" being one of the 10 commandments.

Yep - I notice Guto Harri, who has been Rome Correspondent since the middle of last year, is back as a Political Correspondent (run up to the election?) - which may explain the changes?
I guess Rome is seen as one of the nicer postings...

As far as correspondents go, the BBC have Stephen Sackur, Tim Franks, Katya Adler and David Willey in Rome. I thought that Jeremy Bowen might be there - I read somewhere else on the forum that he was going to become Rome Correspondent from February.

So where is Brain Barron then? I haven't seen him for a while either. I noticed on Sky that Peter Sharp was very sombrely (sp?) dressed, in black tie, etc, as was Anna Botting in the Studio (not black tie, but dark dress).
It was almost as though they were preparing for the worst.
Was Peter Sharp formerly with ITN?

Brian (rather than Brain) Barron is back based in the US these days but was sent recently to cover the tsunami.
