How many OB widescreen capable cameras does the Beeb have?

That sounds like a question for the Asset Management team to me

I watched a little bit of Polish television, a lot of the stations were showing a film(an old film with traditional music) about the Pope, some have stopped broadcasting, while some are showing a black and white DOG on a blank picture, 4fun.tv a polish music channel is showing a message about the Pope.

In Italy the services are running as normal, but with a message at the bottom, telling viewers to view Sky TG24(Sky Italia's Sky News).

Which website did you find these on, or did you go to the actual channel's websites?

I found a few on a site called wwitv.com, but I don't know whether there are any other live streams other than those listed.

Yes but this website doesnt have feeds from any of the main terrestrial channels at all but small digital channels (like bidup tv) so its not a fair represention of Polish tv. TVP1, TVP2, TVP2, TVN and Polsat are all alternating between news, docs and discussion shows. All DOGS are in a black lettering now.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens if the Pope funeral is on Friday.

Just when they thought there couldn't be any more problems with the Royal Wedding!

Having been rather busy this weekend... can anybody tell me how UTV handled any News Reports or Obit Progs this weekend?

Did they take any ITV1 network continuity, or did they manage to get in and out of their network feed cleanly using their own pres?

Caught a bit of the Beeb's coverage last night.

How come BBC 1 inc simulcast gets the widescreen camera, then when News 24 goes it alone, it only has 4:3/14:9 ?

It's probably different live positions in the Vatican. Ones using the BBC's cameras and resources will be in 16:9, one from a third party (EBU) would be 4:3. All the cameras BBC News uses on location/OBs are 16:9 capable.

BBC foreign reports are often shot in 4:3 though - a lot of sharing of pictures between broadcasters goes on in the field, and most other foreign broadcasters/agencies work in 4:3 - so working in 16:9 would make that sharing impossible. That situation may change over time as more broadcasters begin to edit on laptops in the field, making aspect ratio changes in the edit possible. Most field tape editing kit can't do aspect ratio changes. People often wonder about sending a mixed-aspect ratio piece back and sorting it out at base, but in reality there's rarely the time or resources to do it.

Will certainly be interesting what happens if the wedding goes ahead on Friday too...Julie is and Huw appears to be back in London - so will be interesting to see which presenters cover which. If Huw will still present the Royal Wedding.

If both go ahead, I should think were see the early coverage of the Royal Wedding on BBC Two before the actual blessing on BBC One.

My money is on Huw doing the funeral with someone like Nicholas Witchell doing the wedding with someone like Jane Hill (if they do that much coverage)

So the rumour's not true then, that Charlie's had an ASBO put on Nick Witchell banning him from within fifty miles of Windsor?
